Re: F the NCAA

"I fail to see what good is done by shuffling athletes through majors that have nothing at all to do with their interests or goals." I've always agreed with you here though there are plenty of courses that already exist at a majority of schools that could be packaged into a major ( and so...

"I do not think that the average revenue sport athlete over the last 40 years had at least the same degree of interest in academics as the average non-athlete student over the same period. I think there are a lot of reasons for that." This of course is different than your original stateme...

"I would guess." "Ok sure so maybe not most - the percentage doesn't matter - i'm just throwing stuff on the wall that supports the ol iT wAS AlREady HaPPenING! premise." No need to turn up the temperature. I do not think that the average revenue sport athlete over the last 40 y...

Re: F the NCAA

Do you think it's possible that someone who is getting paid 500k a season might not be at all interested in academic requirements? I would guess that most of our rotation players over the last 40 years were pretty uninterested. This of course is absolute hearsay. My parents both worked for KU and h...

Re: F the NCAA

yes. so at the high major level, they should take the school part right out of the equation. no scholarship. no housing. if the children want to be pros, treat them as such. they can pay for themselves from what they earn. Frankly, with the direction this is headed being direct-pay anyway, it is in...

Re: F the NCAA

I want the schools to be schools. do you think the athletes should be students like the general student population? with the same academic requirements as the general student population? I do. That got lost somewhere along the way. I do, also, BUT I think there should be rigorous courses of academi...

Re: F the NCAA

We will have to see if the BWW Chad's care. They are the biggest bulk of the fan. They'll need to be told by a number of talking heads that CBB isn't what it used to be and then Twitter/X will be hot with BWW Chad's and their new viewpoint on CBB. I think there is a greater chance you loose a die h...

Re: F the NCAA

It's well-said, but at least at the moment the college sports viewership numbers don't bear the concern out. Will that change if the player movement doesn't find a more reasonable level? I think that's more likely than not. I certainly don't think it's coincidental that women's college basketball is...

Re: F the NCAA

But with the environment as it is there is a MUCH greater chance you will find yourself at the end of a bench and wink, wink, nudge, nudged at a place like Kansas because of all the money we are now throwing around. The transfer portal is immense. I agree with you. I also think it matters, a lot, t...

Re: F the NCAA

at what other high level of competition, can the players come and go freely as they choose? i cannot think of one. Every single one where the athletes aren't under contracts I would guess? Right. Very much a thing most professional athletes are free to do if they want is to only play on one-year co...

Re: F the NCAA

No one had guns to these players' heads MAKING them play college basketball without making 500k a year either -- unless you were on team JFish and CnB where it sure felt like the poor college athlete had no other choice but to sadly become, how'd you put it, an indentured servant, and just get by o...

Re: F the NCAA

I am not bothered that Kj Adams can do a Raisin' Cane's commercial. I am not bothered that people can transfer freely year to year. I don't see why them sitting out for a year makes it any more tolerable? Because they get what is viewed as "punished"? I think the kids who are transferring...

Re: F the NCAA

If a player wants lower stakes, lower pressure, lower benefits and less competition, the player can choose a lower level of hoop. An original argument on this thread about those who wanted to play college ball instead of pro. No one has guns to these players' heads, MAKING them choose programs at t...

Re: F the NCAA

none of anything that has happened in the past 4 or 5 years is good for the college game. The players disagree. Not the players who now have a much higher chance of getting forced out. But... now a player who is "forced out" does not have to sit out a year. That's too important to be left...

We've really streamlined the steps from denial to acceptance? In fact, you might say we live in a post-acceptance world.

Thanks, "pro-life", republicans: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53663227312_d9c9e8b802_c.jpg The right's positions are: (1) medical professionals should be at risk of imprisonment for providing health care to women, and also (2) some (but not all!) elected officials should have absol...
