Re: Damn It Feels Good to be a Jayhawk
My colleague had posted a “How to Shoot Free Throws” cartoon on my office door when I showed up to work that Tuesday morning.

Re: Shrooms
Most of the “natural chemicals” in plants evolved as some form of a defense agent. That they have some human physiological effect is but a coincidence. They are by no means optimized for humans. As an example, we have optimized pepper plants to have OUR desired levels of capsaicin. We can (and proba...

that conspiracy has been around a long time Yes, the same as the apocryphal 100 mpg carburetor. I’m reminded of a comment my retina-surgeon made about 10 years ago. He’s around my age and a really fun guy to talk to. We always shoot the breeze after my appointment, which is, for that reason the las...

Re: The Travel Thread
Since travel resumed post pandemic I haven’t been on a flight which has had more than a few empty seats, let alone half full flights. I can’t remember the last time there was an empty seat next to me.

Re: We Lost the Battle for the Republican Party’s Soul Long Ago
Are you arguing for campaign finance reform? You? LOL. Look at you thinking that most of this isn't the direct result of the 2002 McCain-Feingold/BRCA. I mean... Silly me, I should have listened to that voice in my head that said it was absurd to think a Republican would care about campaign finance...

Re: NCAA Tournament 2024
None of us know if the conversation with the physicians went along the lines of “well, you could try to play and maybe you’ll do fine. However, remember that there’s a non-zero chance that you might injure yourself to the extent that you’ll be able to walk fine for the rest of your life but not be a...

❓ What about other occupations? A majority of respondents said they are not very or not at all comfortable with a professional in their eighties performing other occupations, like performing surgery (62.3%) , piloting a flight (60.2%) or driving a school bus (55%). I wonder if anyone has calculated...

I think you misunderstood my post. I’m agreeing with you that this particular initiative is misguided. My only quibble is with characterizing stupid laws as uniquely Californian.

Re: No One Cares Because Nothing Matters Anymore
California, land of restrictions. Its everybody coming for choices, everybody wants more governmental control. It's all bullshit, needs to stop. Why are you opposed to following laws? There’s a reason we have speed limits. Having said that, I think it’s a pretty stupid law to take on. Driving 35 mp...

Re: IPAs
As a fan of IPAs well before the hipsters found it, I think that Coors tastes like what I imagine the urine of someone who has imbibed one too many IPAs would taste like. It’s not like the brewery doesn’t know how to make tasty beer. Just that the flagship beer is geared towards someone who doesn’t ...

Using salt to clean is a great idea! Why didn’t I think of that! I also have a dedicated spice (coffee) grinder but I have been using a damp paper towel to clean and then leaving it open to air dry overnight.
