THE Golf Thread

It has been a very entertaining fed ex cup playoffs so far....

Final event of the "year" this week, and it's at a fantastic venue. Small field (30 players) and just about all of the players are capable of winning except for a handful.

This could be the week for tiger...he's been so close, but can't piece it all together (but hey ask Jordan Speith about how hard it is to be consistently great...many thought he was the next tiger and he hasn't won all year or even make it to the tour championship).....back to tiger: his accuracy with the driver has been better, but he's been streaky with the putter, especially under pressure. Doesn't seem to make the 1 or 2 needed putts that he never used to miss when he was in contention on the weekends. Maybe this is the week it changes?

So many good golfers it's hard to pick a favorite. I'd probably say Rose is the safest bet of the top guys, as DJ is dealing with marriage issues...rory has been looking good lately, but stalled out in the final round of the last event. Jason Day is the best putter in the world, so if he can get the other aspects of his game working he could make a run, but he's been struggling a bit by his standards. Koepka is always sexy on paper, but seems to do his best work in majors. Fleetwood can always go low, but hasn't had success winning in the States. Finau is a top 10 machine, but still looking for a win.

Bryson Dechambeu has been hot with 2 wins in last 3 starts. He's who I would say is in the best form, and controls his own destiny....it's just a matter of whether he can handle the pressure knowing there is the season championship (and 10 million dollars) on the line.

I'm going with Tiger, Rory, or Bryson to win this week....and my heart really hopes it's tiger. Maybe the brief rest did him some good.

Next up is the Ryder Cup...stacked team USA on foreign soil will be absolutely electric. No prediction needed for that. It'll be a battle until the very end.

US Team is stacked this year. Europe is really good too.

Interested to see matchups when they do alternate shot and all of those team events. That makes for some fun golf.

Sounds like Tiger/Bryson is pretty much a lock to be a pairing in multiple sessions. I have to imagine we will also roll out the Speith/Reed lineup at least once.

I am also assuming they stick Webb Simpson with Bubba since they're "friends" and Bubba is the hardest guy to pair because he is kind of weird and douchey.

The rest of our guys are pretty interchangeable and should mesh well. Phil and Rickie have some chemistry. DJ and Koepka are workout buddies.

I wish the final was 18 players and they tee’d off by themselves with a shotgun start for the first 3 days and then in groups of 3 on Sunday. No shotgun start on Sunday. I think that would be a ton of fun to watch

Have you seen the new format for next year? Totally fucking bizarre. Here's an article with some details for those interested.

I wonder how long it'll be before the leader heading into the event shoots a -8 in the first round and doesn't have a single golfer get within 6 shots of them for the entire week.....bet that'll boost ratings and be less confusing for everyone (sarcasm alert).

Good first round for Gary. Had a legit chance to be -4 in a 3 hole stretch, but lipped out the birdie. As always, if he can find fairways and make a few putts he can compete with anyone.

Rory with 7 birdies on this track is impressive. Had some bad holes today. If he can clean that up a bit he will be tough to beat.

Tiger with the closing eagle was so clutch. Opening 3 putt bogey was his only real mistake. The best part? Rickie is at the top with him and rickie loves to get 2nd!

Fun first round!

What a day. Can he finish it off with Rory and Rose coming for him? Tomorrow could be a historic day of golf.

Tiger in complete control. Rose and Rory didn't apply pressure early, so it looks like he's going to coast to the win.

What a journey this has been...wasn't sure we'd ever see Tiger win again over the last few years when his body was failing him.

Even if he never wins again, this win was a historic accomplishment. 1 of the 4 or 5 greatest wins of his career imo.

Now on to the Ryder Cup!

Hopefully an exciting weekend and then let tiger get some rest and see if he can have another incredible year in 2019. Going to be masters favorite for sure now. Probably moved himself into top 15 in the world again too.

It is the second consecutive year that the Tour Championship winner did not also win the FedEx Cup. The top five in the FedEx Cup all get over $1 million in bonus money, though, and Woods finished right behind Rose at No. 2. He will take home $3 million on top of the $1.6 million he won for reigning at the Tour Championship.

Won't have to worry about different winners next year. Tiger will be the last true "Tour Championship" winner at East Lake for the forseable future because of the stupid handicaps they're doing for next year where the leader starts at -10.
