Success should be a factor or you have to be eye-popping on the stat sheet like Trey Young.
Garza on paper has the stats but PhD said it right - 11 loss Iowa. Meh.

That being said, Garza was the ESPN player of the year. Garza was a hell of a player.
I'm not trying to say to anyone that I don't think Dok deserved to be a 1st teamer but I'm also not going to say Garza didn't deserve to be one either.
IIowa was a fringe top 25 team. 5th place in the B1G. 11 losses for that team. KU was going to be #1 seed overall.

These arguments are never ending, but surely team success is a big factor in these awards.
1) I thought Iowa was overrated but Garza had nothing to do with my feelings on that.

2) Can't fault Garza for the schedule they played and the league they play in.
For the heck of it I just looked at their stats against common opponents. Pretty even.

3) I'll say it again, I thought Dok was deserving of 1st team honors but I'm not going to say I feel Garza wasn't.

2-0 against the Big 12 and had an easier time with TTU than we did.
Granted, they only beat ISU by 16.
For whatever you want all that to be worth. I say it's not worth much.

Chuckie Moore and DePaul beat them by 15.
7 win Nebraska beat them.
16-15 Purdue swept them, one game by a billion.

As I said in a different post, I felt Iowa was overrated - but Garza was still plenty good.
Fyi, I just did a little research. Seems DePaul beat Texas Tech by more points that we did either time we played them. DePaul was not as bad as you make them out to be.
Looks like Purdue beat Virginia (Finished as the #16 team) by 29 points and beat MSU (Finished as the #9) by 29 points. Purdue was not as bad as you make them out to be.
Nebraska - I got nothing for ya. They sucked.

AP seems to be plagued by regional bias, as in too many voters in areas where they barely see KU. Obviously KU’s mastery of bb was with a not deep at all bench and revolved around Dok and Dot. They even won every game after the powerless cat fight

Saving grace is that AP is just 1 of 4 for consensus.

Markus Howard is the most forgettable “Star.”

Our boys also outplayed Obi.

Great news: This gives Dok Consensus.

Terrible news: Dot will not get Consensus.

What a shitty way to end the season.

I will again rip the inclusion of Markus Howard on first teams.

Howard had 28 points a game which led the nation.
But it was for an 18-12 team.

So you are saying he had to carry a not so great team on his shoulders while his opponents keyed on him defensively?

Yea, that is what confusing.
I think a few players got 3 out of 4 and knocked Dok out?
Having two great players on the same squad 'ruined' their chances at 1st.

That's exactly what happened. If they were on separate teams, I think they'd both be really close to 1st team each.

For some reason in my mind I had it that Udoka was AP First team AA. So, what you're saying is this is even shittier result than I realized.

When the story of this season is told, it should be that we had TWO national defensive players of the year (one of which is ALSO the NCAA's all time FG% leader), and ALSO a second-team AA who averaged 18/4/4/2 on .541/.301/.830 shooting.
