Offseason thread
Re: Offseason thread
I'd take the bet that Garrett outscores Ochai this season - I think it will be close.
I don't think Garrett is over 15 though.
The only guy I think who is over 15 is our 'lone big'.

I'll take Agbaji.

Re: Offseason thread
Ya...Agbaji could easily be our leading scorer. I sort of doubt MG will be if we are as good as we hope to be.
Re: Offseason thread
Garrett shot 2% better from the field and 1% worse from 3 than Ochai.
Ochai took about 1 more shot per 40 minutes.
Both players could improve on those stats.
Of course Garrett is going to be a good distributor - but if he ends up averaging 15.8 and McCormack 15.3 I still think we can/will be a good team.
Is Garrett a good shooter? No.
Is he a good attacker? Yes.
Self loves him some of that.

Re: Offseason thread
My main hesistation is that if MG is our leading scorer that means he is doing it mostly thru iso ball....and since he isn't a good free throw shooter that doesn't seem like the strategy to maximize our talent.
I could be wrong, but i see him playing more like a facilitating PG than a score first PG. He is surrounded by guys who should be better offensively than him at nearly every position. I could see his assists going way up and his shot attempts staying nearly the same....meanwhile i expect Och to be one of our leaders in FG attempts.
Either way, good problem to have.

Re: Offseason thread
Selden had an average FT% but that didn't stop him from having a solid junior season - averaging 13.8 PPG. Josh Jackson had an even worse FT% and averaged 16.3.
Again, I don't see Garrett leading us, I think that's DMac, but Garrett's improved his numbers every season - I could see him shooting 66% from the free throw line and 35% from 3.

Re: Offseason thread
Garrett (with the possible exception of Thompson) is the only one with a good enough handle and quick enough first step to be able to create his own shot when the play falls apart. He's going to have a lot of points late in the shot clock.
My worry with him is the responsibility of being the main ball-handler, the one with the ball late in the clock, the defender of the other other team's best player, and to do this playing 35 mpg

Re: Offseason thread
Leading scorer needs to be Och or Garrett.
Late clock situations needs to also be Garrett or Och with TGF taking the role in circumstances.
All of this unless Thompson is a real deal OAD.

Re: Offseason thread
Not sure why our leading scorer has to be one of those guys.
McCormack is an excellent free throw shooter and has shown he has a spot jumper at the elbows/FT line.
I think the scoring will be a bit more balanced like 2016 - where Ellis was our leading scorer.

Re: Offseason thread
I think our top 3 scorers in order will be:
Agbaji
McCormack
Garrett
And I wouldn't be surprised if the leading scorer was under 15 ppg.

Re: Offseason thread
i’d be fine with 5 guys averaging double digits, even if they’re all sub-15 ppg

Re: Offseason thread
We'll need some significant contributions from #'s 4 through 8 then. A small ball team that is not scoring is in for a rough year.
Re: Offseason thread
Agree with pdub that DMac will be leading scorer - the offense will go through him I'm guessing. Not in terms of him making decisions, but just getting him the ball.

i’m thinking this squad’s defense is going to be stellar
Re: Offseason thread
Yes, I think this is a year where you could see 5-6 guys averaging very close to or in double digits. I'm guessing Braun, Whoever wins out as the small 4 (Enaruna or Wilson), and one of or both of Thompson and Grant-FosterCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 10:40 amWe'll need some significant contributions from #'s 4 through 8 then. But, you just don't play small ball to get into slugfests in the 60's.
Re: Offseason thread
Is there anything that Mac does better than Dok?
Free throws, and some offense further than 2 feet from the hoop.

Re: Offseason thread
Like Udoka. Who was a career 13 PPG scorer.
If we play small ball and McCormack's our leading scorer at 13-14 ppg, we're 4-5 seed-y.

Re: Offseason thread
He has the jump shot, which is why I Silvio might be better next to him than Udoka.
But no, it's going to be a significant downgrade, especially on the defensive end and obviously dunking, which are really big deals.
