...and reevaluate their methods of appealing to the people they are trying to appeal to.

CNN just threw out a stat that in this election Trump actually improved his standing/voting totals from African American men and women. That is unreal to me.

Dems just had 4 years of GOP suicide....and then didn't even take back the senate....and lost seats in the house.

Something has to give...btw this thread isn't meant to take shots, but rather discuss ideas to improve the appeal of the party and its' platform for change.

(Fwiw, GOP needs to do the same and more to establish whatever their true goals are for improving and uniting the country and reestablish their integrity/credibility, but i focused on dems in this thread because 90%+ of the board are dems)

"Trump improved his standing/voting totals from African American men and women".

Three thoughts.
1) I don't know what "standing" is defined as but I'm pretty sure I do understand how voting totals is defined. Didn't more people vote in this election than in 2016?
2) I would love to see a breakdown of the Dems having an African (and Indian) American V.P. candidate on their ticket helping them or hurting them among voters of different races.

Pretty much unrelated to what I quoted for the first two thoughts.....
3) Someone said something very interesting this evening. She basically said that she felt there were Trump voters in 2016 who may not have voted for Trump in 2020 but they did because they have been abused by liberals for supporting Trump - and because they felt so alienated by the liberals - they basically did it out of spite.
Hey - this site proves she might have a valid point.

1. Not sure. I will try to find some data over the next few days. I am sure part of it is raw voting #s, but unless they were first time voters it is still shocking he got more of the black vote this time than last time.
2. Not sure. Probably hard to say.... i have seen some data that shows some latino communities that were heavy in favor of Clinton in 2016 flipped or got WAY closer for trump 2020...some speculate that much of that is due to the riots/looting attributed to BLM movement that some latinos are not as likely to identify with as some other demographics for various reasons.
3. Undoubtedly. Some people simply vote for him because it is a vote against the Dems they hate.

Oh they will lose, but look in the mirror? I doubt it. Past behavior is the most likely predictor of future behavior. They want a puppet in there who will get us into more wars.

There are a lot of hispanic voters who work in the service/hospitality/tourism world who do not want their jobs shut down and Trump appears to have scared many of them into believing that Biden will shut down their jobs.

COVID has disproportionately hit the African American and Hispanic communities, not just medically but financially as their jobs were shut down. When people get financially desperate they may try to vote their way out of it no matter how smelly the turd they have to eat to do it. Trump may have won some of these votes by shutting off the last stimulus attempt and starving them out.

Good point. I am sure that played a role as well....trump didn't scare them into that imo. That was a legit fear. They just shut down restaurants in many areas of IL again. It was
/is a real possibility Biden would do something similar on a national level...and i am not saying he would necessarily be wrong for doing so.

...but fwiw some of the biggest swings when it comes to that were in texas and Florida....which were not really shutdown states. So hard to say what is the main cause. I am sure it is a combination of many issues.

But lets not rewrite history, the dems had PLENTY to do with shutting off the last stimulus "attempt". A lot of talk goes on about GOP not acting in good faith, well Nancy Pelosi has done her fair share of acting in bad faith for purposes of political posturing...especially when it came to the stimulus talks.

Not as currently constructed. Absolutely not.

They adjust their platform to include a healthcare for all plan while maintaining traditional insurance option for wealthy/healthy people who are insurable, and some sort of change in stance on the environmental issues facing our planet, and i could see them changing the game a little bit.

But their current platform of gun rights and NO SOCIALISM/COMMUNISM just isn't attractive to a lot of people. Stop spending so much time talking about what the other side is going to do, and tell us what you are going to do and/or do something meaningul when you have the opportunity. They wasted 4 years with the senate and the Presidency and did nothing all that meaningful. Pathetic.

My original post even says both sides do (shocker right!?!)

But this entire board is 90-95% Dems and we have hundreds of threads discussing how terrible the republicans are.

Both political parties have completely abandoned the notion of “let’s see if we can’t come together and do what’s best for the folks.” That ship has long sailed.

They don’t answer to the folks anymore. The folks are of no interest.

Some folks want to tax the wealthy - Biden says he will do that.
Some folks want universal healthcare - Biden says he is going to continue that.
Some folks want to refocus America's energy economy to green/sustainable and be diplomatic when it comes to climate change - Biden says he's going to do that.

Now what the 'dems' need to do is still try and accomplish those goals but with compromise - meaning they don't get everything of what they want, but some of it.
