iconic movie scores/soundtracks

1) Star Wars
2) The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

should plays that were eventually made into movies even count? Les Miserables might be up there as well, if so

Re: iconic movie scores/soundtracks
i can’t count soundtracks that are just mash-ups of popular music
Jaws would be up there, as would be Willy Wonka
Braveheart and Robin Hood PoT would be second tier, imo
i’m a big fan of Dances with Wolves, but none of the score comes directly to mind...maybe it’s just me

Re: iconic movie scores/soundtracks
Listed the Braveheart and Dances with Wolves because they were in my 90s Caselogic CD case. Couldnt tell you much after that.
So Rocky IV wins.
So Rocky IV wins.

This was debated deep down in another thread:

"I listen to probably any movie composer that you would name - including Morricone, who's Untouchables score is tops.
I still would easily name Hans Zimmer in my top 10 movie composers.
Likely top 5.
Shore. Goldsmith. Zimmer. Williams. Newman. Elfman. Silvestri.
Reznor's Social Network is up there but he doesn't have the portfolio of the other guys.
Daft Punk's Tron legacy. Disasterpeace's It Follows.
Also give me video game composer Jeremy Soule or Matt Eulman."

Re: iconic movie scores/soundtracks
Most recently the most affecting movie score was in 1917, the last movie I saw in the theaters.

Re: iconic movie scores/soundtracks
That's one of those movies that is so disturbing it is hard to remember the soundtrack. Mostly I remember thinking I wasn't sure I could watch it all the way to the end. "The Lighthouse" with Willem Dafoe had the same effect. The acting is incredible/believable and the story line so brutal it is hard to watch at times.

2001: A Space Odyssey has to be on the top of every list. Apocalypse Now has some iconic scores, although in both of these movies they are just classical music redone. Pink Panther series has the iconic Mancini score. The James Bond theme is rather iconic, I would say
Saturday Night Fever has to be there for soundtracks, as is Blues Brothers.

Morricone's 'The Thing' is underrated.
Beyond it's time.

But I think the music, which is now so well known, really helps make it disturbing, and it sticks with you, which makes the movie stick with you, and then, like, you can't sleep.japhy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 3:41 pmThat's one of those movies that is so disturbing it is hard to remember the soundtrack. KU fans know the main song to the Requiem For A Dream score as it plays ( played? ) under the video on the board before basketball games in Allen.

obviously this is different for many people, but my original thought was about music (or musical elements, i.e. Jaws) that are immediate recognizable to their respective movies
