Kansas had a hangover from winter break, and showed up expecting to coast through another ho-hum W over Texas.

Texas showed up ready to compete for their biggest game of the year.

We’ve talked over and over about McCormack, but this is a really important moment/month for Marcus Garrett. What kind of legacy will he leave here.
Exactly. Whose team is this anyway?

this is apt

whoever the “leader” is on this team dropped the ball. a loss at home is one thing, loosing like that is something altogether different

Wilson has fit into that role multiple times this season but I still think it needs to be Garrett or Ochai for the long haul.

There has yet to be a point this season where I've seen Garrett and thought heres the B12POY and 1-3 AA candidate.

Similar re: Ochai’s pro potential.

if he wants the attention of nba scouts, I just think it would help for him to display something toward letting his college team not get blown the fuck out.

I keep thinking, “poor man’s BMac.” Cuz, sure, BMac was a lotto pick! But BMac was also an elite college shooter, and also had those HOLY SHIT athletic moments on the reg.

And a poor man’s BMac is still a really good college player, but yea, short of actual BMac raw potential, and/or don’t-let-yer-team-get-curb-stomped intangibles, I think we can expect 2 more years of Och in Lawrence.

Och's stroke looks too nice right now for NBA teams to pass up.

In fact BMac is a good example. That guy has shown nothing of being some kind of killer player or all-around alpha and he's still in the league because he can shoot and is athletic. NBA is a specialists game now.

Also, the "leader" thing was not the takeaway I was going for with Garrett. I don't have that criticism yet, and as we saw against Tech, both he and Och wanted the ball late.

Garrett just hasn't played as well as even he did last year yet and all of us were hoping he'd take the step up to being nationally relevant.

The “specialist” thing does lean in Ochai’s favor. So does the non-alpha thing.

But, still, it just seems like there’s something missing, doesn’t it?

Call it some eye test: BMac’s entire freshman year seemed like he was a lotto pick in waiting. Ochai’s a junior and we’re wondering if a gm might take a flyer.

don’t get me wrong: I hope Ochai goes league too. Maybe even sooner than later! But if he does go league sooner than later, it’ll be cuz he either 1. Turns a yuge corner for the rest of the season, or 2. Leaves anyway on what’ll likely be little more than a 2nd round chance while rubbing his lucky rabbit’s foot.

Hopefully it’s 1!

But with all that said, I certainly think he’s at least good enough to get paid somewhere, even if not the nba. If he wants to pursue that opportunity, I’m not going to tell him he shouldn’t

There’s stuff missing if you’re drafting in the lotto (particularly quickness on the perimeter), but that’s not the only way he’ll get to the league.

He’s a junior, but he had a late growth spurt, only played one year of AAU, and has only played one full season at KU. I also think how good of a kid he is gives him a shot.

Honestly don't see much reason to overreact to that loss. Texas is good. I've been saying for a couple seasons now that Shaka has a really talented athletic group of guys and Shaka is finally starting to do something with it.

Simple fact is Texas played hungry, Kansas played complacent. Texas shot the lights out. Kansas didn't shoot that well. Regardless of talent that is a recipe for a blowout. I bet we bounce back just fine

That was a statement game for texas though. Baylor is the conference favorite. Kansas is Kansas. Texas is legit and wants to prove they belong in that discussion too. big 12 feels like:
