I've read on numerous boards that Danny didn't really recruit here so I would take him if Self forced either Norm or KT out. If he doesn't do that then I would pass on Danny for a young, hungry upcoming assistant who is a great recruiter.
Surely Danny recruited at Tulsa and Wake, though.

Isn't KT going to be the "fall guy" when the crap hits the fan?

I caught some flak on Twitter but I said she is overrated.

A good fit with Turg, but that program really needs an uptick in recruiting. Not sure if Danny is that guy.

Love Danny. But I'm kind of getting pissed off with KU fans fascination of him. He's an all-time great. But he's not that great of a coach/recruiter.

I mean, the man is 116-140 as a HC. That's quite awful.

He did a good job at Tulsa.
Wake Forest proved to be a pretty tough spot to coach - stepchild to Duke, UNC and even NC State.
I think there is some truth that he helped our big men become better players - and I think he'd be an asset here - but that said, I don't think he is what we need at the moment.

I'm glad he's still in coaching.

You are a lot more knowledgeable than I am. I'm curious as to why you feel he's not a good coach.
I mean, you pointed out his record but as pdub pointed out (and I said before he took the job) it's not too easy to be successful at Wake these days.

On a related side note, I watched Danny teach and "coach" NBA players during games. He had their attention and respect and seemed to enjoy sharing his knowledge and wisdom - so I figured he would be a college coach pretty soon after he retired.
Granted, being a college head coach is a lot different than giving advice to NBA players during a game.

Do I think Danny would be the perfect guy for KU? Probably not but I didn't think Roy and Bill would be "perfect" guys when they were offered and took the head coaching job.
I was wrong.

Interesting that Maryland seems to be a bit slow updating their Basketball website.

I think Hudy and Danny Manning were great for us, we are just fine without them, and they are now both at great spots for them.

Throw Dooley in there, too.

Right, Self is the HC and is the one who matters most.

But we're also fortunate and biased in that, when we loose an elite assistant coach, we replace them with an elite assistant.

I think Dooley, Manning, and Hudy were all very good in their roles, they aren't the only people on the planet who can do those things, however.
