That's not happening, though.

There are obvious, forceful ways to get rid of the virus much quicker--forceful lockdowns, physically forced vaccines, killing the infected, etc.--no one's argued anything beyond mostly passive vax mandates like passports for entry, travel, etc.

Australia has had 68,041 Covid cases and 1,066 deaths. Ever. USA had 157,759 cases, and 1,700 deaths. Yesterday. I’m pissed that they have a system that’s working.
The ends don't justify the means.
actually, according to colleagues that actually live in Australia, you’d be wrong

one of my colleagues is Indian, and is grateful that he now lives in Oz...actually wishes he could get more of his extended family there

the folks i know from Australia don’t tend to bitch and moan about covid measures near as much as ‘muricans do

they just had massive strikes and protests about their mandates regarding the the truckers snd ended up having to roll back some of their measures to continue receiving freight. So, it depends on what media you read

There could be a ripple effect, though, and some I'd like to see.

For instance, Qantas announced yesterday that they will require vaccines for all passengers on international flights. Hope that it 1. convinces other major airlines to do the same, and 2. convince many citizens around the world, including the States, to get the vax because we all know that people love vacationing in Australia.

i haven’t read any media regarding Australia

part of my company is based there and i have regular conference calls with them...it’s all anecdotal, i know, but i’d sooner trust what they say over what is being said on a KU message board

Controls that are constitutional--because that does need to be a requirement. I'll personally cross that bridge when or if it comes, but carry on.

But, what has been posited here that is more invasive than Australia?

just that their covid measures have largely been more successful than ours

nobody even insinuated anything beyond that

I value my independence and freedoms, particularly in the sanctity of my own property. Watching a modern western country invade that in the name of "covid" is disconcerting.

I guess I don't understand the problem with that unless people are saying to rip up the Constitution.

I do agree we need to take lessons from the Patriot Act, but there are plenty of instances where the Courts shut down some of the bullshit tactics the FBI, etc. used while citing the Act's authority.
