Yeah, but were they commies?
Communal ownership of land and communal housing, Marx didn't invent that concept. They had a constitution hundreds of years before the US, which included concepts such as individual liberties and separation of powers.
Doesn't sound like Communism at all.
Wut?

Communal ownership of land and communal housing,

Communal ownership of land and communal housing,
Are we talking Marxist theory or the actual practice of Communism in the last 125 years? Cuz there’s a difference.

If only you could point to a place in history or a culture in which Communism worked and made life better for people. But you can't.

heads up bro, this sounds like western capitalist propaganda. There's plenty of commie countries who say the same thing about us.

but as far as whether it "worked," or whether it "made life better for people, what examples would satisfy you? This is quite the can of worms, but in an attempt to at least kind of keep this thread on topic: commies are kicking our asses in Covid response.

China, Cuba, Vietnam, way lower cases, way lower deaths, way better vaccination rate, not to mention if one of their citizens does have to be hospitalized they prob won't go bankrupt about it.

And, bear in mind, their propaganda machines are pointing to Merica's covid response and saying, look! see! capitalism doesn't work or make life better for people!

Jesus was no Communist. He was also not a Dem or a Pub. It makes me laugh every time someone tries to claim him for their cause.
Guess what book this is from!
Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of THE LORD. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

As we learned a long time ago in Western Civ 2, USA already is and has followed many/most of the themes of Marx's socialism.

We are socialists!!

It's a common confusion.

Communist Russia and China were/are actually authoritarian, the National Socialist German Workers Party weren't really socialists and Christian Identity groups don't really follow Christ's teachings per se and Republicans aren't the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower any more.
I saw the worst minds of my generation empowered by madness, bloated farcical naked,
dragging themselves through the whitewashed streets at dawn looking for a grievance fix.

You conveniently forget all of the people starved to death, placed in gulags and prisons, tortured, and living under hopeless totalitarianism - all in the name of Communism. It doesn't work because human nature won't let it work.

Great Bible verses. Lots of people prooftext like that to mold it to fit their preconceived notions. I'm sure that's true of whatever website you culled them from.

You mean like the oft-quoted Leviticus verse used to justify homophobia?

maybe psych is right, and communism won't work because human nature. (covid response examples be damned)

but if communism won't work because human nature, then why the eff would we trust humans with a system like capitalism instead?

and yea, lots of people DO prooftext like that to mold the Bible to fit their preconceived notions. but, as zsn pointed out, that sort of thing applies at least as much to perpetuate homophobia, and misogyny, and other bass ackwards world views (not to mention the prosperity gospel type bullshit)

Cuz actually, the Bible is actually quite thorough and consistent in its messaging to condemn excessive wealth, and to support the impoverished and and vulnerable and oppressed. but only if you choose to read it that way.

heck, maybe it's Christianity that doesn't work because human nature won't let it work.

I think it's pretty clear that JKLivin doesn't understand communism, but he doesn't understand the bogeyman!

For the record, I'm not advocating for communism.
