i agree, that we’re closer in our general thinking. i’d imagine everyone here agrees that war is bad

the difference is that some of us are seeing the world as it is, rather than how we’d want it to be

no amount of wishful thinking is going to rid the world of evil people. sometimes, war or the threat of war, are the only things that stop or prevent truly evil people from committing evil acts (see Hitler and the Holocaust for probably the most glaring example of this)

humans have been warring with one another for thousands, if not millions of years. that isn’t going to magically disappear. in fact, it’s likely to only increase as resources become more and more scarce

But generally, I think systems of power and wealth are better off dispersed among many, rather than concentrated among few.

It would do a better job of avoiding too much power in one’s hands, both economically and politically, rather than precisely affording too much power to the Putin types.

No, we can’t completely rid the world of evil people, but we can design our systems to account for them and dilute their influence.

And yeah, we’ll fight over resources. Fwiw socialist lefties - more than any other demographic or ideology perhaps? - seem to want to advance ideas that promote mindful conservation of resources, rather than mindless consumption.

The saddest part is we aren't nearly as close together in our views as you think. Idealistic purity is great for songwriting but not of much use in actually changing shit or getting shit done. Pragmatism rules the day and the world. If it isn't a reachable goal, it isn't an ideal, it is a fantasy. You can make personal change without any compromise, but systemic changes require compromise and having skin in the game. I think you know that also.

It's interesting how Putin is coming to Ukraine to "get rid of neo-nazis", and yet the neo-nazis in this country are parroting his claims about bioweapons and signaling support for putin.
