Ohio State, UNC, and UK were 3 of the 7 (at worst, btw) best teams in the tournament. KU played all 3 of them. That's 50% of their tournament games against top 7 teams. That's insane.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 10:01 amIn 2012, KU played a 15 seed, a 10 seed, an 11 seed and the 1 seed in their bracket who just lost their starting PG to an injury to get to the Final Four and then beat an Ohio State team that they had already beat earlier in the year to get to the title game. So a very similar "lucky bracket" path for that team.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 9:15 am Definitely. 2012 was more unlikely (imo). They beat some really good teams to get there too. Last year had good breaks within their bracket and in the other brackets with other top teams going down.

It's not very weird to play two of the best 7 teams (AKA a 1 seed and a 2 seed) in the tourney in the Final Four. Baylor did it just last year. What IS rare is lucking out by getting to play one of them when you had already matched up against them earlier in the season. And UNC without Kendall Marshall was no longer one of the best 7 teams in the tourney.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 1:44 pmOhio State, UNC, and UK were 3 of the 7 (at worst, btw) best teams in the tournament. If you want some symmetry between this year's team and that 2012 squad, I found this Bill Self quote amusing: "This would have been a year, if we got to the second weekend (of the tournament), most Kansas fans would be happy. But that's not how those guys think," coach Bill Self said. "They think this is their year, and I'm certainly not going to tell them anything different."
Sounds familiar...

The honors awaiting to be bestowed upon Tyler Self are far more illustrious and acclaimed than the rafters of AFH.

Ok.
