That type of scenario , “gun raised”, used to be the thresh hold for deadly force. And rightfully so.

Sadly, the bar has been laying on the floor for a few years.

Some thoughts on this video.....
How was he able to walk on the field without someone stopping him?
Not a single official noticed him on the field - and obviously allowed the play to be run?
What were the cops supposed to do here?
How quickly would they determine/know if he's a threat or not?
How quickly and easily can you differentiate between if someone is wasted on alcohol/drugs, if they are sober and "sane", or if they are mentally ill?
Did they use excessive force considering the circumstances?

Why stop at the taser? Maybe beat on him a little. Then shoot him and say he reached for the gun!

Right 99!?!?

An hour and a half of that? The cops should have just left him there if he wasn't cooperating.

Fire every single one of them who participated in escalating the situation. Sounds like there were a few who were actually trying to help (shocking, there were women) but that several different officers were actively engaged in escalating a situation with zero need of it. The "suspect" as described in the police statement, was not a suspect at all.

yeah, I agree that every cop there should be accountable.

Should the cops speaking sense bear more responsibility...the statie was there asking the county guys exactly what their plan was - should they have some duty to ask why it's necessary to start busting windows, or why the F they got tasers and bean bag rounds and guns out too?

and it would be one thing if the cops really did think the guy was a threat or otherwise had some probable cause. But they repeatedly seem to acknowledge he isn't a threat, and there is no probable cause that any crime occurred.

And the guy even repeatedly offered to disarm himself, by throwing the knives out the window. Why WOULDN'T cops want him to disarm, and why didn't they take him up on the offer? It seems like they either didn't actually perceive the knives and rubber mallet to be a threat, or they wanted this paranoid guy to still have the knives, just to see if things get interesting? (not to mention how a guy with knives can even be a threat from inside a closed car)

I've also seen nothing suggesting the cops thought it was some kinda DUI situation. The guy mentions he "smoked," and is acting all paranoid, but I don't think if they ever ask ask what he smoked, or say or do anything else suggesting they suspect him of being under the influence. Maaaybe cops could try for some argument that they were trying to detain an intoxicated driver, yet the evidence suggests otherwise. (prob why cops have been completely silent on this incident thus far)

It seems they were just on yet another good old fashioned power trip. It's almost like they acted under the assumption they wouldn't ever have to account for it...and, spoiler alert!

still, just imagine calling 911 cuz your car is stuck, only to have it result in cops jumping on your hood and shooting you through your windshield.

i don’t know what you’re talking about…nothing says de-escalation more than:

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
