What I'd imagine is not good for the country's mental health, is for there to now be multiple generations of adults for whom gun violence is so endemic that they've never known a world without active shooter drills at school.

This is a risk of our own choosing. We do this to ourselves. And the fundamental cause of this policy failure is the vulnerability of rubes to taking up the gun lobby's bad-faith talking points.

You guys are always talking about how America is an outlier when it comes to gun deaths, and many have suggested its a cultural thing on why it is so high. I already know what I'm going to be labeled, but im not even giving an opinion here, just showing some statistic we all know is true
Which brings us back to the guy you feel would be a good President.....

Randy the Rube keeps posting things that actually run counter to his arguments.

What I'm taking from that chart is that just America's whites have a significantly-outsized homicide rate.

Hey, hey! Someone gets it!
I promise people my mental health is better when I am not exposed to gun violence - and crime.

Take a closer look at the demographic responsible for the big chunk of recent shootings
It is 100% comprised of people with guns?
You blame "rubes" but the bigger percentage of shooters dont vote republican
You have absolutely nothing to base that on, fool.

Don't be naive. There hasn't been a generation of adults that didn't know gun violence since the invention of the gun. And before that people were murdering eachother with swords and axes

What that chart shows is if you factor out the American black homicide rate, America actually ISNT a global outlier for gun violence, despite having significantly more guns than other countries

So statistically. Americans "gun problem" that makes our country an outlier, can really be tied back to inner city gun violence where we have the strictest gun laws and the democrats get most their votes

Its an inconvenient truth nobody wants to talk about. But the bulk of gun violence isn't done by ar15s and isn't some progun maga American

The bulk of gun violence comes from left leaning big cities

But the media will talk about one shooting in a white school that kills 4 people and ignore 60 people being murdered in a weekend in Chicago

The one, single thing all shooters have in common is the gun.

The one, single thing all shootings have in common is the gun.

“If you ban some guns, the rate of murder-by-whoopie-cushion would go up by 4,000%” is not a meaningful response.
If you ban guns the rate of murder won't go down. The rate of gun murder probably won't even go down. It'll just make things harder for law abiding citizens
There's simply NO evidence supporting this.

And there is LOTS of evidence - in addition to basic common sense - supporting the notion that stricter gun laws result in fewer gun deaths.
there’s evidence in this very thread…in just the last few pages, i think

the state-by-state statistics say everything, not to mention the global statistics

Rube Math never fails to impress. Go look at comparative statistics about before, during and after the ten-year assault weapons ban from 1994-2004. Was there a magical uptick in mental health in the US during that window?

So, the MAGAs fail to do things that would reduce the risks for "white schools" out of...some sort of solidarity?

We have had the same "shooting vs. mass shooting" conversation a million times here. I don't think we need to revisit it again. They are different and require different measures to help reduce them. This thread is about mass shootings so let's stick to those.

Fortunately, we aren't talking about "banning guns". The conversation is about reducing the ability of certain people who may be deemed a higher risk of perpetrating a mass shooting event from being able to legally purchase certain types of guns. That isn't a ban on all guns.

Ultimately, what people like Randy are saying is that citizens' rights to purchase and own assault rifles is worth at least as much death as is presently arising out of the exercise of those rights.

There's no "what about" or "yeah but" that can refute that fundamental truth. It simply IS what they are saying.

the freedom to play G.I. Joe, basically, outweighs the freedom to live, go to school, go to the store, etc. without fear of being murdered

And again - just so we're being 100% clear - no serious person is seeking a comprehensive ban on guns.

We just keep getting told, over and over again, some combination of: (1) the Second Amendment guarantees a present-day right to buy, own and use assault rifles, (2) there would not actually be any utility to "contracting" otherwise (by our elected representatives codifying restrictions on the buying, owning and using of assault rifles).

1) mass shooting happens
2) Dems call for restrictions on the ability of disturbed people with ill intentions to not be able to buy AR15s and high capacity magazines so easily
3) GOPs scream about Dems trying to take away their guns/ban all gun sales
4) Conversation dissolves into stupidity
5) Repeat steps 1-4 every few weeks for what seems like it will be the rest of eternity

1-4 weeks seems generous…but maybe the numbness extends that far now

edit: misread…but still, a few weeks seems generous
