Shiny Happy People

Post by japhy »

WTF?

I remember the popularity of the Duggars but never watched a show. What little blips I saw was cringe worthy. And I remember seeing mention of a trial for kiddie porn and thinking, "that sounds about right". And near the end of the documentary we see the "fruit" of the IBLP/ATI/Quiverfull movement, Madison Cawthorn.

Jesus Fucking Christ.....oh, I give the documentary too thumbs up!

At one point they show a family board game put out by these people, I will be definitely getting one. It will be part of future Stoned Olympic Competitions.
I saw the worst minds of my generation empowered by madness, bloated farcical naked,
dragging themselves through the whitewashed streets at dawn looking for a grievance fix.

I am going to watch it thanks to you. Thanks for the heads up!

On a non related note.....

They didn't play S.H.P. because it wasn't released until after 1990 but it was still a heck of a concert.

I think the documentary did a pretty good job of letting the Duggar daughters tell their story. They get hesitant at times and then push through. The background stories of IBLP and Bill Gothard are pretty shocking. It is an interesting look into a cultural phenomenon and the homeschool industry. The story of the TV network and parents trying to save the show while shit was a going down was not flattering but they let you decide how bad that was.

And I can't wait to see what the board game, "The Richest Christian" looks like up close. The title seems ironic now.

I saw REM when they came through on the Chronic Town tour, they played the Opera House as I recall. They were a good live band back then although the only words anyone could make out Stripes mumbling was "Radio Free Europe".
