Day drinking is supposed to be done at Johnny's North

Ah, that sucks.
It had a good outdoor space for the spring and summer.

I sent the news to my daughter who went to KU. One of her girl friends worked there and she had been there a lot, when it was Dos Hombres.

Wasn't it also briefly a club?
For like 2 or 3 years?

Re: Fire in Downtown Larryville
When I worked there you had to have a club card to drink. But that was true for all of Kansas at the time.

OK, I knew the owners of Dos didn't renew the lease when the landlord refused to make upgrades. Raoul's Velvet Room. Would have loved to see what that was like.

That would have been when I was going to KU and I remember never having any interest.
Pretty soon after it was a Mexican restaurant but I coulda sworn it was called something different for 2 to 3 years before becoming Cieltio Lindo.

The restaurant that burned down sucked. I can’t speculate on why may have caused the fire.
It was Dos Hombres during my time there, which was alright as I remember.
I for sure remember my freshman year, going there on Monday nights for $4.25 all you can eat tacos (they fried the meat in the shell then stuffed white people style. Me and a buddy would demolish 13-15 tacos each. My single memory of being poor and exploiting a food special.

Border Bandido always filled that “cheap and plentiful” spot for meBack2Lawrence wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 4:11 pm The restaurant that burned down sucked. I can’t speculate on why may have caused the fire.

I don’t think it sucked.
It was exactly what you expected, mid tier Tex mex. It was the level of La Familia or El Mezcal.
I hadn’t been in three or four years though so maybe it dropped off.

La Familia was really good bad Mexican food. I don’t think Lawrence has any of those places anymore. Lots of good good taco places, but no cheesy saucy goodness place. La Tropicana sucks. El Matador sucks. Meh.
Re: Fire in Downtown Larryville
I thought Molcajetes was decent ( ate there last December ).
El Porto can be a cheesy saucy goodness place.

The best one for cheap food was the Holiday Inn, near the Turnpike entrance on 2nd (?) Street, across from the Hallmark. It used to be $1 beers and all you can eat tacos.Back2Lawrence wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 4:11 pm The restaurant that burned down sucked. I can’t speculate on why may have caused the fire.

I just tossed the Sanctuary Club card a few months ago when I was cleaning out some old stuff. Didn’t even know I had it
Re: Fire in Downtown Larryville
I got a band card one year in college that offered 4 dollar deli meal combos from Dillon’s. One main, two sides and a roll.
It was a cheat code bc the workers there DGAF and filled your styrofoam box til it was busting at the seems. You’d get 8 chicken tenders, and two full servings of mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese etc.
Multiple times a week.
Two meals each serving ( unless you just went full glutton mode ).
Other deals on the card included 2.00 six inch meatball subs from Subway and 20 percent off Jade Mongolian Grill ( buffet all you can eat ) and Jade Garden. Also I want to say a dollar off the pizza shuttle 2 topping personal pizza deal.
