I get that it’s some modern-dystopia civil war.

But like who’s against whom? And what is everyone fighting for?
The basic idea is a president takes a third term and doesn't relinquish power, the people revolt. But beleive it or not the movie isn't really about that, and it's kind of vague and less important

The movie really just follows a group of 4 journalists who are trying to get shots of the front line of combat, and gives an incredibly realistic first hand POV of what it would be like to live through a civil war

My work buddy saw it last night.

He’s ranting about how much he didn’t like it.

Says the lack of context as to which sides are which and who’s fighting for what and how it all got to the point it got is frustrating.

Without that, he says it came across to him as a mindless shootemup.

Sounds like he hates the Star Wars movies (in total).

So, he missed the entire point of the movie.

Also, for a “shootem up”…it was pretty light on people being shot up.

It’s streaming on Max so I watched. Lots of small themes (personal struggles) from main and minor characters alike.

I was all for watching a dystopian movie about how messed up we are, but that story is mostly not covered, other than it’s the journey the journalists are witness to.

I don’t want to offer any spoilers, but if you watch for the undertones of individual character growth and reasoning, it’s decent. If you are wanting something of a representation of or story telling of how we got here, it’s not there. So far, I haven’t been curious enough to query google to find answers.

The story lines of the reporters, what they faced while trying to maintain objectivity is what made this movie for me.

Yeah when I tried to focus on that, it was great. It’s hard to do that when some of the actions of others were so head-tilting. I think this was brilliantly done and 100% on purpose and perhaps key to the point of the story.

The movie sucked. Period. End of story.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I didn't get it. You're right. I'm not going to get something there isn't to get.

Ok, now that I have sat and thought about it for a while, it didn't suck that much and I suppose there were things to get. Terrific.
Probably 329182 other movies I would have rather have watched.

I’d rather have read the book to get something, and watch the movie for the ‘good’ parts.
