but I guess I can dig Self's apparent strategy of stockpiling SG/SF perimeter players outta the portal.

the 2 and 3 spots are up for grabs, so just load up on a bunch of them on the odds a couple will work out.

Other media lists him as a forward. If he is more of a guard, it's almost certainly as an off-the-ball shooting guard more so than a lead. What do you think?

apparently he was B12 sixth man of the year tho? And had 18 points in a win against us? I dunno if I remember this dood.
He is probably the best player available at the position KU is looking for. Kentucky is probably the leader for him if he doesn't stay in the draft but nice to see KU getting in on him. Hopefully it's not too late.

if i recall, he was a pretty big piece to BYU’s successes, coming off the bench but leading them in scoring

He made more threes in the BYU win at AFH than the entire KU roster.

If we end up with him instead of Furphy, this team is going to have a lot of wings with size, and some real shooters.

But the issue is going to be making up for McCullar and Furphy's rebounding.
Per 40 rebounding last year:
Robinson - 3.8 (Yikes)
Storr - 5.5
Griffen - 5.1
Adams - 5.4

vs
McCullar - 7.0
Furphy - 8.2

FWIW, I don't really think of Mayo as a wing, but he actually averaged 6.3, so, better than the wings.

I wouldn't worry about rebounding. We have a deep athletic team. These guys are competing for minutes. They will be fresh and competing for minutes. They'll be going after rebounds

Maybe they will make up for it by making some damn shots and not having so many rebounds available.

Speaking of “Small” guards, anyone got anything on that Oklahoma State dood who apparently hasn’t signed with West Virginia yet?

Are you implying mccullar and furphy had inflated rebounding stats cause we couldn't shoot? Lol

Nah, just sad and venting that last year's team couldn't shoot worth a shit. Although nearly a third of Furphy's rebounds were offensive boards so maybe it would help cushion it a bit.

Someone will fill the void and rebound. Self will deal with that. That's mostly a positioning, assignment and effort thing, not an ability thing.

i’m hoping Bidunka has a TRob-esque motor and gobbles up boards like they’re going out of style

I’ve always said that rebounding is more of an attitude than anything else. Rodman tried to get every board instead of turning around and heading down the floor. Even when he didn’t have position he tried to keep it alive and tip it to himself.

Reading where the miss is going to come off seems to be another lost art for many players.

I don’t think we can (in the context of rebounding anyway) call this team athletic, particularly in the frontcourt.

Hunter and Zach are minus athletes. KJ’s athleticism has yet to translate to even average rebounding. And lord knows what (or how much) we’ll get out of Bidunga.

Rebounding will be a key to our success. Defensive rebounding.

Bidunga will play 10-12mpg at most, unless we find a way to play he and Hunter together. Which seems unlikely at this point, but Self and Co. have all summer to try to get Bidunga ready for that.

I think it's almost a certainty that HD plays 30mpg. Same with KJ. Same with DH. I am good with that. I think we have the pieces around them to make that work.

What we really need is for Storr to get into a groove with playing off of DH and KJ, because those two are willing and effective passers when at their best. He needs to be our go to guy. I do not think we want it to be HD, but maybe I am wrong and he will develop that over the summer.

HD was very good last year. Almost nobody spends time with Self and doesn't get better. I expect that we will see an improved HD.

Self gets #3 next year. Place your bets now.

Or just play the percentages and go for the weak side. I remember when doing player-tracking stuff being shocked how many misses went to the weak side.

But I suppose that makes sense, right? Momentum of the ball is going that direction.

yes, weakside gets more rebounds, players have tendencies too, some guys typically miss short, the great rebounds know the players and where they miss most often. Long shots long rebounds usually etc...
