I, for one, don't mind if the things that I enjoy cost a bit more if it helps society as a whole.
I try, whenever possible, to shop at places who pay their employees more money on their own.
This probably means I pay a little more, but I prefer it.
No one with work experience should accept or keep a minimum wage job. They're really only for first time employees, and even then if you don't very quickly (like within a few months) start getting raises, you should be applying for every other job possible.
There are many jobs in the country that simply do not warrant being paid more than minimum wage. They aren't just for first time workers, they are also for workers who have little ability to do much more than the minimum. They are simple jobs that require no education, little training and little knowledge. And, like it or not, some people are simply not equipped to handle more than that. It doesn't mean we should raise the rates so that minimally equipped people can live comfortable lives.
When I was in HS, I had a minimum wage job...then after three months, I got a raise, probably just $.25 an hour or so, and then I think I got reviewed every 6 months after, and depending on how I did I got another raise...the harder I worked, the bigger the raise was. I even got a promotion. I think minimum wage at the time was $5.15 and I think that by 2 and a half years later, when I quit, I was making $6.75. Neither was good enough to raise a family, but it was pretty good for a 17 year old.
People with work experience shouldn't be making minimum wage.
Minimum wage should really only be paid to people for their first job, and then only for a brief amount of time.
Federal minimum wage should remain fairly low anyway, most states have a higher minimum wage on their own...but that makes sense, the minimum wage in CT should probably be higher than in rural WV...A large increase in federal minimum wage has a pretty negative impact in WV and no impact in a state like CT that already has a higher minimum wage, out of differences in cost of living.
I only came to kick some ass...
Rock the fucking house and kick some ass.
