Dude ranks all National Champions
I may be biased, but I think the 2008 Kansas team should be higher than 27th..

Seems to definitely overvalue teams from the 60s and 70s and puts a lot of stock into final record.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 7:48 am I may be biased, but I think the 2008 Kansas team should be higher than 27th..

Re: Dude ranks all National Champions
My thoughts. The only champion to win a Final 4 of all #1 seeds.
I'm not saying KU is top 5 or anything. But a solid top 15 is probably accurate.

Re: Dude ranks all National Champions
My argument for 2008 isn't just that it was #1's but also that:
1. That UNC team won the 09 title
2. The core of the 08 KU team beat the 07 UF title team
3. UCLA's run of 3 straight Final Fours
4. Memphis would have been known as one of the greatest teams ever if it wasn't for Mario's shot

Re: Dude ranks all National Champions
I don't disagree with that...but #4 is probably why they're not higher. They were probably the 3rd best team in that final 4 in many people's eyes. 1 game doesn't change that I suppose.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 8:44 am My argument for 2008 isn't just that it was #1's but also that:

If Kentucky 2012 is 16th, Kansas 2008 should at least be 15th.
Re: Dude ranks all National Champions
We should be ahead of every pre-1980s team. College ball was more like the current women's game, there was usually one great team (usually ucla) about 4 really good teams, and then garbage.
We should also be ahead of the 1994 arkansas team...so that puts us at about 8 or so.

Re: Dude ranks all National Champions
Good point phd. Are they ranking them based on who would beat who? Or who had the best year in that given year relative to the rest of the country that year? Or just most well remembered / impressive lineups/record type stuff?
Re: Dude ranks all National Champions
Kansas 2008 had the 2nd best adjusted offense and the 1st best adjusted defense.
11th strength of schedule RPI, 14th kenpom.
They won their conference and conference tournament in the 2nd toughest conference in RPI/Kenpom.
They beat the champion of the toughest conference in the Final Four by 18 points.
They won the first Final Four with all four 1 seeds.
They played the 2nd, 3rd and 11th rated kenpom teams on the way to the title - their opponent strength of the six teams they faced ended up 37th.

Highest Adjusted Efficiency Margin (how Kenpom ranks teams) of any national title winner in the Kenpom era (back to 2002).pdub wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 10:28 am Kansas 2008 had the 2nd best adjusted offense and the 1st best adjusted defense.

For comparison KU had an AdjEM of 35.21 in 2008. Illy's favorite team, the 2012 UK team, had an ajdEM of 32.59.

Re: Dude ranks all National Champions
Meh. I don't think much of the 2012 UK team. That was a weird year. They're only getting bumped in this stupid ranking because of having AD, who btw was not nearly the same player he is today (which they're clearly giving him credit for).
Re: Dude ranks all National Champions
Obviously Kansas fans are going to rank the 2008 team higher than some random writer. We love that team. Not to mention that team had some of the greatest personalities we've had in the Self era. RussRob and DJax are so loved by us. Same with Sherron, although he has a small % of our fan base who dislike him for whatever reason. Then you add Cole beating up on TyHanny in the final four who was a universally hated player.
It was just such a great year. They're my favorite team of all time (the 2008 national champion Kansas Jayhawks). I don't give a shit what some guy ranks them. I'd choose them over any team.

Re: Dude ranks all National Champions
Always an impressive feat when you win a Final Four of all #1 seeds but let's also realize we only played against two of those four teams.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 8:20 am My thoughts. The only champion to win a Final 4 of all #1 seeds.

If I'm not mistaken, off the top of my head the 2016 Nova team beat 2 #1 seeds and the 03 Cuse team beat 2 #1 seeds. My guess is that may be it this millennium. So indeed it's a rare accomplishment.
