Green New Deal
Re: Green New Deal
A starting hourly rate of $15.00/hr is pretty good.

Re: Green New Deal

My teenage daughter is excited about starting her Dunkin Donuts job Friday. Right around the corner, $12 per hour.
Of course she doesn't have a family to support. Or need health insurance. Or auto insurance.

Re: Green New Deal
If you're making minimum wage you get Medicaid.
And you would expect she works hard to show she deserves more than that. And that she can find a new job that will pay her more if they don't after she has that experience.

Then how did he become the world’s richest dude on a 5 figure salary?

Re: Green New Deal
Noone has to pay taxes when gains are reinvested into the company. Amazon doesnt pay cash dividends to Bezos, therefore, no tangible income gain. If and when he cashes his shares he will be subject to taxes.

Re: Green New Deal
good discussion guys, thanks.
apparently Bezos's's wealth is from his shares, which he's had since founding Amazon. His salary is low cuz he hasn't had a raise in 20 years.
I wish I learned more about this in like school. But instead of learning how money works, I learned shit like, the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.
Don't get me wrong, I think biology is worth knowing too. I'm glad I learned it, it's badass shit, and def more interesting than money. I just wish my extensive knowledge of mitochondria made me so rich that I didn't need a raise for 20 years.

Re: Green New Deal
At 15%, right? That's kinda messed up. I get that it incentivizes investment - but it's a very regressive result.

Re: Green New Deal
Not on long term (more than 1 year) capital gains. They are governed by the bracket above based on profit amount. If you have capital gains in the short term (less than 1 year) you are subject to taxes at your federal tax bracket rate.
Note this is applicable to assets only - capital gains tax rates on property sales are governed by a different set of rules and can be deferred completely (up to 250,000 per individual or 500,000 per married couple) provided you only file for the exemption once every 2 years. If you're flipping properties more often than that there is a seperate (and higher) capital gains tax bracket that is used to determine your tax rate.
