Don’t worry about bears. Worry about mountain lions. And rocks.

Has anyone ever taken any sort of creative getaway?

That annoying guy glamping is on the northern tip of Palawan (the long island on the southwest of the Philippines). The 7k pesos per night rate he mentioned is ~$135 USD. I love the Philippines and that goes double for the island of Palawan which is not only beautiful, but known for being very protective of its biodiversity and sustainability.

Oh hey there humidity!
Re: "Get away" trips.
The bay: because why shouldn’t 55 and foggy feel colder than 2 degrees in the mountains?
Re: "Get away" trips.
Over New Mexico on the way back from LA

Who has been to the Turks and Caicos?
Tips learned so far:
Everything is super expensive - think about packing liquor on a checked bag there.
Airport is tiny with no spots to hang out so don't arrive hungover.
Rental car is a must but they drive on the left and don't have stop lights.

Re: "Get away" trips.
I'm sure it has changed a lot since I was there in ~ 2007, but it does tend to be expensive. And compared to many other Caribbean Islands, it was less developed. But it also has one of the absolutely best beaches I've ever seen, Grace Bay Beach, where a reef breaks the surf so it is really calm.

My comments are not directed at you specifically. It's something I would say to anyone.
"think about packing liquor on a checked bag there". Really?
I honestly have never heard of people doing that. I would think if someone felt a need to pack liquor to save money then they should probably give a lot of thought to if they should really be going somewhere and if they can truly afford it. It costs many thousands if not 10s of thousands of dollars to go there. You're looking to save what? A couple hundred bucks on liquor?
I figure a rental car is in no way a must - if you hire a driver. If you can't afford to do that, see my comments about liquor and affordability.
All that being said, I have gone places where I couldn't stay/see/do the things I would have liked to have done because I couldn't afford it. Some regrets in that regard but overall, my thinking on that is if you want to go somewhere bad enough and you can find a way to do it - do what you can and try to make the best of it.

Oh dang, for a second I was hoping Turks and Caicos was a new roller coaster at Silver Dollar City.
