I’ve been to this bar many many times. With or without Alumni cards or blue collar locals without cards either.
Just joking, jhawks99, I was in Panama City this morning to get my car serviced at what is left of a very large dealership that was hammered by Michael, and jokes are needed when one sees the devastation of that very nice community.

My sister lives there. Her house is still standing but just barely. They evacuated and we're safe throughout the storm.
We all know people who are living in their very damaged homes because there’s not much of anyplace to go.
What’s very lucky is that Michael hit a few miles east at Mexico Beach, because so many people stayed in PC and there would have been 1000s of deaths if it had been further west.
Anyone remember Sanctuary? Used to be a "private club", torn down around 1988-ish, around 7th and Arkansas. It was great. They used to have tacos bar and $2 pitchers, IIRC a $3 cover. Fun place. Another one was an 18-bar on 9th (at Louisiana?) called Palladium or Pladium or something. Turned into a laundromat and gas station around the late 80's. Used to hang out at the Crossing and the Wheel as it was closer to my apartment (across from the frats on Emery)
When I was briefly in Lawrence earlier this year (after a long time) I had a great experience at the Burger Stand (Casbah) in Downtown. I really liked the good (large) selection of draft beers and the lively experience, especially in the basement.

I hired their best bartender to be my lead cook right before they shut down. Used to hang out there occasionally.
Any new spots ( bars/restaurants ) in Lawrence ( new meaning opened in the last, oh, 2 years ) worth trying?
Checklist on every visit:
Free State ( Cheddar Ale Soup )
Thai Siam ( Panang Curry )
Red Lyon ( pitcher of Boulevard Pale )
Harbour Lights ( double wells )
Nice to haves/guilty pleasures time considering:
Cielito Lindo ( lunch combo )
Bryants/LCs ( burnt ends/ribs/baked beans )
Dempseys ( burger )
India Palace ( its fine - Aloo Korma )
Johnnys West ( close to the rents - wings or burger )
To me, going to places that I couldn't afford (or have afforded) while I was in college is not generally on my agenda for Lawrence trips. I'd much rather have a burger and some beers at The Wheel or something, and anonymously cover the tab for some table of kids.
