I guess I already put that 4 years ago.
KCrim has been around that long? Huh.

And it has only gotten worse and worse as they try to introduce more and more of something Americans find as rigorous and complicated as a traffic roundabout.

Well the good thing about the traffic roundabout is that you can be more aggressive.
It helps mitigate the oh, you first even though I'm obviously and have been for some time, first.

In Floriduh they might as well be 4-way stops because it seems like nearly everyone, especially the cars in front of me, stops.

Driving in Israel is the best driving experience I have had.

Very aggressive drivers, but they will let you in if really needed (like your lane is suddenly ending with no warning).

And they have roundabouts, which are great in general as long as you don't have octogenarian Floridians behind the wheel.

i “got” to drive in Yaoundé, Cameroon, several years ago

as harrowing as Manila, but not in the same way

no roundabouts in either case, fortunately (?)

I spent a week in Aruba over the winter, and rented a car. Nearly every intersection is a roundabout. I recall maybe one or two stop signs, and no stoplights.

the horns!!!

jfc, it’s absurd…and completely defeats the purpose when everyone is laying on them nearly all the time

99, did you hear that they’re (the Philippines) being accused of crimes against humanity for all the extra-judicial killings during duterte’s drug war? i heard estimates this morning that maybe 50K people or more were murdered

Flew into Grand Cayman years ago and rented a car, where they have lots of roundabouts and drive on the wrong side of the road. I was standing there at the car rental counter repeating the instructions the clerk gave me when she said: "All rental cars here have yellow license plates, and natives have white plates. As you approach a roundabout, be sure to follow a car with a white license plate, and you should be fine."

It turned out to be great advice!

We were there in Sept., which was the mating season for a species of crab, which meant they were migrating everywhere all over island and often on the roads, especially at night. They were thick as hell and there was no way to avoid driving over them, which seemed like a huge waste.

I have some friends there who are all in on Duterte. Guess they think he's killing the right people. And they really do have a terrorist problem, especially in the south. I'm not a fan, but I don't live there either.

apparently duterte pulled out of the ICC several years ago, and the new marcos administration is refusing to cooperate with investigations

a good friend from Tobacco had stray fire hit his house (with partner and kid inside) during police “activities” a couple years ago. craziness

edit: but you’re absolutely right about the terrorists problem in the south. i spent some time outside of Zamboanga City and had to escorted by armed guards from the airport to our field station, as well as any time we ventured out into the forest. this was right when all the kidnappings of foreigners were happening, and they were being taken and held on Basilan. one of the guards that was with us had “friends” on Basilan and showed us pics he’d gotten of beheadings of govt soldiers

so surreal, and admittedly scary

"Things That Annoy Me".....

At this moment....

....I was going to stop by the nearby Walgreen's but as I was walking over there I received an alert that someone was stabbed right outside of it. Yep, heard the sirens. Figured something was up.
That's the hood I live in. Supposed to be one of the better hoods in the city and yet it seems not a day goes by when there aren't either crazies doing cray cray things or assholes are doing asshole things.

.....Eating shitty chicken. If it even is chicken that I'm eating. I'm not convinced that it is.

.....Being fat.

Thin Kelly Clarkson was hot.
Fat Kelly Clarkson annoys me to no end.

Crazy thought about what you posted.
I was going to respond by asking if you feel that way about most women who went from "thin" to "fat" and then ask you if there have been any fat women in your life that you have loved.

Here is what's crazy, I don't recall having a single fat female close relative (mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin) other than my Aunt Marie. I did love her.
Have I ever loved a fat woman other than Aunt Marie? Maybe at the time I knew them I thought I loved them but looking back - probably not.

Moving on.......

At the moment it annoys me that I have a beautiful view of the sunrise over the lake (Michigan) and I know a year from now there is a decent chance I will no longer have the view because the rent price where I live will be too high for me and I will be "forced" to move in to an apartment that I will prefer NOT to live in over my current apartment.
Call it what you will but the current cost of living sucks for me.
If I knew I was going to die in the next 5 years I would actually be happy. I would retire and live somewhat happily ever after. Problem is if I retire I know I will end up living much longer than 5 years and will/would inevitably end up "trying to make ends meet" in my later years.

Perfect set up for someone to respond that long posts and sob stories annoy them.
You're welcome!

Humidity. I hate it and won’t get used to it. Dropped my car off at a shop .9 miles away from my house, and walked home just now, at 0800. Felt like I was in a sauna.

Gross.

Ps- should this go in the weather thread?

I lost power for 3 days in Brookside. Went out Friday at 4pm and didn't get service back until Monday night at 6:30pm. Absolutely horrible experience. No A/C for two days, until I found a small A/C window unit. Had my generator running to keep the fridge cool and a couple fans and a light, but otherwise, I was bored out of my mind.
