Get the ball to Dave early. Hope he is good Dave. This can include him realizing the double and swinging it out to an open shooter. Crash the offensive boreds - they aren't particularly great at stopping the opponent from doing so.

Drive, drive, drive after rebounds.
Nova's a slow paced team - dictate the tempo.
Officials, just don't with the 'charges'.

Ochai go play a game where you swing the Wooden vote.

Agreed. Especially if we can get a few fouls on them. No Nova players are going to want to touch anyone if they are at risk of foul trouble. They have to know they have nothing behind them. I'd also like to see Adams come in and bang around on Samuels as well here and there.

This this this.

Even with this team, I don't think they've ever received that message so clearly than at halftime against Providence. We were throwing loooong outlet passes and maybe even a baseball pass or two iirc. That was so great and fun to watch and it absolutely killed PC.
You talking about Miami..? Providence was played at their pace the 2nd half.
Yeah, I'm losing my mind. It's March.
But to your point, like the first minute of the game, I think we had 2 3/4 court passes. That was definitely the message.

You also hound Gillespie.
Houston did a good job of this.*
He went 1-6.

*( oof, Nova won going 15-52 from the field )

And of note, as a reminder, Nova doesn't have a deep rotation.
Daniels off the bench played 35 minutes as their 6th man vs Houston.
Their 7th guy played 2 minutes.

No one else played.

This has been a talking point on this thread since page 1. They don't have shit for depth. They have 5 guys healthy that have played over like 4 minutes per game. Self just needs to run at them. If Dave or Mitch get in some foul trouble, throw out KJ and Clemence. They'll be able to be an active body.

Villanova is a machine, so that's the only worrisome thing. They have a lot of guys who come out of nowhere. But this year's team doesn't seem to have a guy ready quite yet.

if we run, they just won’t have the bodies

tired legs kill jump shots (and free throws)
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

34.6 - done
34.1
30.0
29.5
27.3
25.1
9.6
9.5

That's their minutes rotation on the year. 6 and 7 in the rotation have COMBINED for 34 minutes during the tourney. 20 of those minutes came in the opening round game against Delaware.

Dixon only plays 25 a game. I don't see how he can play 30+ against KU's big and not get in foul trouble without giving up 25-30 points. If they play him normal minutes and decide to use Archidiacano or Antoine more, I can actually see this being a game where Jalen at the 5 is an actual thing for a while. Even going "small" like that would still give KU the 2 biggest guys on the floor with Jalen and CB. Would also allow Harris to harrass Gillespie more.

I don't care how tired they get, I still wouldn't bet against Nova in a FT contest. There's a reason they about to shatter the NCAA record.

Absolutely. They may only have 5 guys, but those 5 are as good as any combination in the country.

Dave's a big advantage on offense but a liability on defense unless the team is playing a traditional big ( which is most teams ). It's why I like the strategy of trying to build a lead with Dave ( like we did v Miami ) and then preventing any come backs with a smaller crew if they are going to play really small.

agreed…which is why i think it’s a good idea to do whatever we can to limit the damage they might do at the stripe

I think it's a DeAndre Daniels reference?

Agreed. They just beat a Houston team that was full of aggressive players who can really grind it out.

If we get into a FT contest with them, then we definitely failed elsewhere.

Something like 69% to win. Only way it gets to a 50/50 game is if Nova dictates everything they want to--I think that is mostly pace and then each team's 3P%. Self and players need to assure it doesn't get to that point. The wild card, as has been suggested many times, seems to be Nova being in foul trouble.
