Kansas was so close to getting this done last week but now it looks like this morning's committee meeting killed any chance of getting it done in 2022. Meanwhile, Missouri is more than likely going to get their bill passed. Sucks.
Where are you hearing from that the Missouri Senate is likely to pass sports betting? I know the House passed 2 identical bills to current Senate bills that are being discussed, but I think there is an uphill battle in the Senate with the casinos having big beef with both bills. i.e. they aren't happy with their cut and some of the pork attached to the bills regarding slot machines (I believe).

Would obviously love for it to pass and hope that the Senate will.
I didn't realize the bill was up for such a fight in the Missouri Senate, I misunderstood what was going on over there then! I assumed Missouri would try to force theirs through to beat Kansas to the punch, at least that's what the House seemed interested in.

In Kansas, we have the casinos on board however someone in the committee this morning proposed a last-minute amendment that would have just killed the bill. It narrowly failed but there are some other hold ups now and it's looking less optimistic.

It's absurd that any state, let alone ones with budges crises (KS, MO, check), would not legalize sports betting and recreational marijuana. MO is losing sports betting tax revenue to Iowa daily.

There is a feel that there is a battle to be had in MO Senate, but I'm hopeful that it's just a ploy to use the media to get people to call in to their state senators.

That's what I can't wrap my head around. The state legislature in Kansas loves to complain about how they don't have any funding yet refuses to open up new revenue streams in the form of sports betting and marijuana. I thought for sure Kansas was poised to make this happen this year because they studied the numbers of how much money they are losing to Iowa and Colorado. And if Missouri gets theirs passed then Kansas is in deep trouble. Very frustrating.

Correlation between legalized sports betting and bridging budget gaps is spurious at best. Probably belongs in a bored down the hall but many states have budget surpluses right now and legalized sports betting isn’t likely in the top 10 reasons why

You're right. I'm not saying legalized sports betting would fix Kansas's budget issues. But I am saying Kansas isn't exactly in a position to say no to an extra $10+ million per year. Every little bit counts.

Of course, but make no mistake about it, Kansans and Missourians are spending their money elsewhere.

With that--I will get back on the Final Four topic.

Don’t forget the extra sales tax from all the people at BWW placing bets, too. Because, that’s the best place to watch.

Legal sports betting is like herbicide commercials…. Except they never stop. Ceaseless annoying commercials and the discussion on the radio has pivoted big time. It is a shame.

Ticket prices have dropped a tad. Get in price is about $400 for both semifinal games compared to about $470 a few days ago.

Apparently, the bigger barrier is finding a place to stay in NOLA.

The commercials are
No doubt ridiculous. Don’t have to deal with them living in Kansas again, though. Not having those commercials on is more ridiculous.

And a flight there is something like $1,100 round trip for one passenger. I know a lot of Kansas fans will drive, but still.

It's probably the biggest Final Four ticket in a long time. 4 good fanbases.

There aren't a lot of great places to host a Final Four.

NOLA is a great place to host a Final Four.

You should watch sports broadcasts in EU and UK - it’s a nonstop pitch for sports betting! They even have the website on players jerseys!!

I understand the point CNB and ULD are making as well. This oneupmanship between adjacent states played out in the open between Connecticut and Rhode Island in the early 90s. I think a stalemate was reached, which turned out to be best for everyone involved

I hope it is a fun week for our guys. Which reminds me of a pregame locker room speech by Self telling the team how much fun they are going to be having in that locker room in a few hours (2008 UNC, I believe). And that reminds me of one of my favorite post-NC videos somebody made based off the Nike commercials and play intro videos at the time. I hope our guys are enjoying the media attention. How are the networks going to video player intros when we have key dude(s) coming off the bench? Can they really show just show the starting 5 walking down a tunnel? No Remy? No Mitch?

Ok, here is that video from 2008, post NC.

To answer my own question. I guess it worked out ok for Sherron Collins.

If you like watching ants play basketball and enjoy getting altitude sickness - then $400 is a really good deal.
