I'm just now starting to think about football. Is there really a three week gap between the last preseason game and game 1 of the regular season? Who thought this was a good idea?

The last preseason games are August 28. The first regular season game is September 8 with September 11 being the first full Sunday of games. So really just a two-week gap.

I think that ditching the last preseason game and having a week off prior to the start of the season was the "concession" to adding a 17th game to the schedule.

Yeah, that would be the reason.

Hardman should be alright, may miss a preseason game.
Speaking of WR's, we rank 25th ( Cincy 1st, Tampa 2nd ):

https://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/story/ ... dge-rusher

Rank 2nd in QB, TE and OL.
22nd in Cornerback. 23rd in Edge rushers. 28th in Running back.

KC's WR room is better than 25th. Putting them behind New England, Washington, Carolina, Detroit, NY Giants, Jacksonville and New England is silly. They are better top to bottom than all of those teams. We saw what JuJu could do before Big Ben tore up his elbow prior to the 2019 season. The list of throws Big Ben could make his last two years was shorter than the list of throws that Mahomes cannot make. I think people are sleeping on him big time.

It's only because we traded Tyreek and all the so called analysts are convinced the Chiefs will be horrible w/o him. I love Tyreek, but he drops quite a few passes and is always double teamed, which limits his ability to get open. His speed is what separates him from the other receivers, but at some point, he won't have that speed as he gets older and more banged up.

I can see why they are behind a few of those teams you listed ( Carolina, Washington, Giants ) as those have more recent alpha receivers. JuJu hasn't had a good season since 2018. DJ Moore has had 3 1,000 yard seasons in a row. Robby Anderson an 1,000 yard season in 2020.

As far as Tyreek, I think it was a wise move to trade him at this point for draft capital and cap space.

I checked and I agree, I don't think the Pats should be ranked as high as they are.
Jakobi Meyers, a busted up Davante Parker and an underrated but only above average Kendrick Bourne are on par with us.

Always been in the camp that chiefs did the right thing by trading tyreek but more for the long term. In the short term, I can't buy any argument that it does anything but make the offense worse. Chiefs WR's are not good and that's why I think there is a chance it might not be a big year for them--weapons matter now in this league. Chiefs WR room is nowhere close to top half of the league in a ranking, but that ranking is pretty silly considering in an actual game every opposing defensive back and linebacker knows where Travis Kelce is before every snap. Mahomes, Reid, Kelce, please, they'll be good again but MIGHT have issues in the marquee matchups and playoffs.

It definitely made the offense worse on paper.
I wouldn't put it past Mahomes to have a better year than he did last season though.

Does Fortson have a better than very slim chance to make the team?

Surely that’s the last we see of Mahomes til the regular season.

It will be.

Something like 19/26 and 3 TDs in 3 preseason possessions.

He’s going to be a man possessed.

Fortson looks as good as he did before the injury. All of the receiving unit looks good right now.

With a week off after then next game, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go out there for a series or two next game.

The Chiefs have been top 5 in the NFL each of the past four seasons and were seventh in the season prior to that. I fully expect them to continue to be top 5 in passing yards per game this season.

Looks like Jody Fortson is going to get some reps soon. Between the great game he had in Preseason Week 2 and this weird hip injury to backup Blake Bell, Fortson should be getting plenty of targets to start the season for the Chiefs.
