I think our defense is the best with Garret at the 4. Seems like we went on the run when Garret checked in at the second half.

More likely it'll be KJ or Mitch than McCormack. He and Dedric together doesn't seem like it'd work very well defensively. Would have a hard time dealing with ball screens with both of Dedric and DMac in. Self has spoken about why it doesn't work well. Dedric needs space, DMac does the opposite of provide more space.

I think DMac is better than mitch and KJ individually, but it's the sum of the parts that matters.

It will be a game by game adjustment based on matchups. Garrett played fantastic defense on their best big last night and only had one or two "WTF are you doing" moments on offense so overall a great game. Can he do the same against Nova? Dunno, I guess we'll find out. I bet he guards a big on the perimeter better than Dok did.

I wish Garrett would STOP shooting 3s. No matter how wide open he is. It's possible, at times, he's that wide open because the other team is playing to the scouting report.

He's a 25% 3pt shooter. That's awful. Move the ball. Create for others. Play defense. Rebound. That's it.

Yup.

i don't even mind him driving when it's there, but jumpers are probably the weakest part of his game

He has a decent drive to the basket.
His jumper is a thing of nightmares.

No reason for him to cross half court. We could REALLY spread the court that way.

Of course shooting should never be option 1 for Garrett (and to a way lesser extent Dotson).

But the idea of never shooting is bad. You can’t have him completely scared to take the shot ever. He has to shoot and learn to knock down an open set shot. A Garrett 3 is going to be our best shot in like 1-2 possessions per game, particularly after the ball is passed 3-4x.
