Meh.
Grimes hit some threes which could help his confidence in conference play.
McCormack got some clock too.

I'm not saying Grimes shouldn't play and I'm not even saying he shouldn't start (although, I like Agbaji more than him right now). I just want to see McCormack get more minutes.

The only reason Self gave De Sousa minutes last year is because he was forced to when Dok was injured during the big 12 tourney and look what happened. De Sousa ended up being a big part of this team during the NCAA tourney because of that.

I think you might be wishing McCormack into a skill set he doesn't have yet.

Mccormick is awful on defense and rotations. He can block some shots though, which is nice...but he gets lost too much...which is likely why he doesn't play more....he also chucked an ill-advised long jumper 8 seconds into a possession, which didn't draw good reactions from the bench.

There are maybe a half dozen teams in the tourney who are built like the UK roster and none of them would be in our path until the Elite Eight or beyond. Kentucky had FIFTY rebounds tonight. Michigan State, Tennessee, Gonzaga, Carolina, maybe Maryland. Outside of that we will hold our own down low and have a great chance to win games in the tourney.

Or unless Self actually commits to trying to develop McCormack for later in the season like he did with De Sousa last year. Grimes shot better in this game but I would still rather see McCormack (or Agbaji) on the court over him just so we have a solid center later in the season. We all know McCormack has the potential.
He is a season and a half from that potential, not 6 weeks. Too many fans think giving a guy an extra 10 mpg magically transforms them. This game is complicated and challenging at this level.

Just because he is smart and tries hard doesnt mean he is going to pull an Embiid and blossom in 9 games.
