It is almost like prices do not comport with reality but are driven solely by greed. Nah.

Robert Reich

Federal minimum wage in:

2009: $7.25
2010: $7.25
2011: $7.25
2012: $7.25
2013: $7.25
2014: $7.25
2015: $7.25
2016: $7.25
2017: $7.25
2018: $7.25
2019: $7.25
2020: $7.25
2021: $7.25
2022: $7.25

The result: It's now worth 41% less today than it was in 1968. It's time to raise the damn wage!

(The minimum wage in 1968 was $1.60/hour, up from $1.40/hour in 1967.)

But very few states have such a low minimum wage.

I'd say get rid of it altogether. Let the states compete.

Depends on your definition of "very few".

40% seems like more than that, to me.

Georgia and Wyoming’s hourly minimum wage are tied at $5.15. However, employers covered by the FLSA must adhere to the federal requirement of $7.25.

Sorry, more accurate would have been that very few (relatively) people are subjected to those low-ass minimum wages.

Over the past two years, more than 250,000 migrant children have come alone to the United States. Thousands of children have ended up in punishing jobs across the country — working overnight in slaughterhouses, replacing roofs, operating machinery in factories — all in violation of child labor laws, a recent Times investigation showed. After the article’s publication in February, the White House announced policy changes and a crackdown on companies that hire children.

But all along, there were signs of the explosive growth of this labor force and warnings that the Biden administration ignored or missed, The Times has found.

All (recent, especially) Administrations have been derelict in prosecuting employers for breaking immigration laws by hiring workers not authorized to be employed, regardless of their age. Unfortunately the same people who call for the prosecutions of the employees are silent about prosecuting the employers.
