Well hopefully Leipold loves it at KU so much and is so invested in this reclamation project that he has no desire to even consider living anywhere else but the great city of Lawrence, KS.

I hate to say this, but if I had no prior knowledge whatsoever of who Lance Leipold was or what he did for a living and had to guess - I would guess that he was Nebraska's football coach.

The longer Leipold's name is attached to this thing, the better it is for Trev Alberts. It would take A LOT of PR work for Nebraska fans to get comfortable with idea that they want to hire the head football coach from Kansas. So it benefits Alberts quite a bit that guys like Bruce Feldman keeping bringing up Leipold with the Nebraska job. The other thing that helps is KU winning. The more games we win, the better Nebraska fans would feel about going after him. Definitely not saying that's what is going to happen, but the PR machine is hard at work right now.

per SI:

Nebraska’s top three candidates for the open coaching job are Iowa State’s Matt Campbell, Kansas coach Lance Leipold and Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, per The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

goddamnit

Would you rather:

A: win six regular season games, go bowling and win the bowl game but loose Leipold in the offseason?
B: win five games and not go bowling but Nebraska hires someone else and Leipold stays.

Leipold was just on a show with Ryan Leaf. Yes, that Ryan Leaf.

Asked about potential job candidate rumors.

He answers, "We didn't come to Lawrence to move."

Hope that's true.

I'm going to go with an unpopular A.
My guess is no one cares about my reasoning so I'm not going to explain myself other than to say I prefer definitive/actual success over non-definitive/potential success.

That makes logical sense, so I get it.

But, I don't think we are just chasing wins here, particularly immediate wins, considering the last decade+. There's a ton to be said for program stability especially with our history, the impending conference carousel, and the objective evidence that KUAC is moving forward with stadium improvements.

So, for me, the difference of 1 win and a December game in Shreveport is not a tradeoff for stability. Just consider the last 12 seasons--a single 6 win season in that timeframe would not have been nearly enough to undo the terrible position that Miles and then Leipold inherited.

I prefer hanging onto the guy who may well prove to be our best football coach ever, as long as possible.

We need a winning culture

Don't get me wrong, it took me some time to think about it. I feel B is an excellent choice/answer and I am probably about 50.5% A and 49.5% B.

Stays for how long?

At least for the beginning of the 2022-23 season.
Basically, in this A/B scenario, with B, he doesn't accept a new job this year/offseason.

If you could be KU's Bob Devaney or Nebraska's next scapegoat, I would think it would be a pretty easy decision.
Ous would mention here that sweet sweet scapegoat cash. I, however, am betting he wants to be the next Kansas legend, esconced forever into the lore of the Hill. Because climate change has ended life on the planet in 2033 quite suddenly. But I digress.

Three things I know about Trev Alberts:

1. He MADE Mel Kiper.
2. He is a DICK
3. He is very ambitious and likes making headlines.

#1 and 2 are irrelevant here. #3 suggests he'll end up somewhere other than Leipold.

Fingers crossed.

I'd much rather be having a conversation about which is a better town, Lincoln or Ames.
