Why I said C. Tough to beat Cali and Colorado and throw in Connecticut in the summer too and that's a good trio.

Have I mentioned Montana?
Montana is beautiful and bountiful, but no ocean.
Thats true. But I'm more of a mountains and streams guy than I am ocean. I dont like the ocean all that much and I dont like most people, eapecially when were all crammed in together

I’m with ya, but if you wanted to go to the city, there would be a multitude of options.

Of course, with your choice, you could vacation at PDub’s and save money sleeping on his couch.

I’m more concerned with one day seeing the headquarters of ESPN.

And where the Gilmore Girls lived.
C would be a cinch pick if you were allowed to visit NYC.

I think it is, though, anyway. You have nearly every good kind of climate and geography.

Having spent decent amount of time in two C states (two coasts) it’s tough to beat. Best average- one East, one West and one middle!

I'd also go with C.

N would be a second place and would take over first if there was a beach involved. Don't know enough about the Carolina beaches, but it sounds awful initially.

Otherwise, you have the entire city, mountains, hookers and blow, seclusion, and fucking Nebraska.

Northern Nevada is nice in spots. North Dakota is not great. Nebraska is a shithole. New Mexico is awesome. North Cackalack and New Hampshire I dunno, never been but sure they have good parts.

C gets you Los Angeles, San Francisco and Denver. And also San Diego, Santa Barbara, Vail and Aspen. And also Carmel, Palm Springs, Napa and Telluride. And also the Sierra Nevadas and Rockies, and Muir Woods and Big Sur and Rocky Mountain National Park.

And also Anaheim and all the California weirdness north of the Bay Area, and Colorado Springs, but no one says you have to go to any of these.

When I first read the question, I thought it was to pick a single state, and California is the easy choice.

I'd even trade Colorado for an equally tourist-y state that offers something different than mountains because you can really get all of that stuff in CA.

I'll take CA and HI and forgo ever stepping foot in the other 48.

Colorado also doesn't have an ocean.

1. Maine - most beautiful state in the USA
2. Montana - also gorgeous plus cheap living!
3. Massachusetts - can't beat the history, best pro sports teams recently
4. Michigan - lakes, trees
5. Maryland - Chesapeake, and if you can count DC here, bump it up past Michigan
6. Minnesota - It's fine
7. Mississippi - Whoof

8. Missouri. Just that is enough to avoid the Ms.

It's got the geography - ocean, mountain, forest - massive area.
I'm not generally interested in it's populous.
The state will have to deal with water issues ( not just the cities, the entire state will suffer ) soon - also it is the costliest state to live in on mainland.

I'm curious as to why you dislike California.
