Here’s one thought as to why I’m bullish on this team:

We’re winning games even though most of our offense and defense isn’t even installed yet.

The fact we can even execute a late game inbounds puts this team further ahead than many at this point.

We’re winning just by playing hard. We’re barely even to the point of mitigating dumb unforced mistakes yet.

Once things click, we’re gonna be a hell of a matchup.

We lost All-Americans at the 1 and 5 positions.

Their replacements this year have been average and below average.

Still have a top 5 resume to date.

And if they win just 1 of the 2 coming up, that number jumps to top 3.

Sparko is right, going zone was coaching brilliance - thru them off stride at a critical time in the game. It alleviated Dmac's defensive ineffectiveness

Most surprising has to be Oklahoma. They have brought some damn good teams to Lawrence. Granted, unbalanced schedule through the early part.

That puts Self’s road record at 100-44 (69.4%)

Do I recall correctly that no one else in the Big 12 is above .500?

That's where all the titles live...

Huggins 55.5%
Beard 54.8%

Kruger 50.0%
Weber 50.0%

So for every ten road games, Bill wins 1.5 more than the next best guys.

Yep.

Oh, and for reference

Self 81.8%

Oh, my bad. Those winning percentages are for ALL conference games. Not road conference games. No other coach is even remotely close to .500 on road conference games. I'd guess the next highest is around 36-40% at best.

Absurd. Not a cupcake conference either. Has some played big time players and programs.

Shaka Smart vs. Rick Barnes is probably fun.

Self's big mistake was placing a premium on defense and fundamentals. He left out the dribble drive, shot fakes and try hard statistics to the masters.

I think any coach could look brilliant though if they apparently have shooters who can connect that frequently from Steph/Dame land?

Contrast that with our best shooter struggling to get the ball over the rim from college land.

Bryce has an inside outside game that is very impressive in spurts. If Och, Wilson and Braun could be consistent, there are some x-factor guys. But Steph range is possible. Need to shoot when open and crash the boards like against Baylor. Scooter Barry had solid minutes that put the team over the top in 88. Look at the depth chart and evaluate.

It's more about spacing then it is where they shoot it from. An extra 2 feet doesn't make that much of a difference when it comes to shooting from deep. If you practice it enough, you can do it. Our guys just focus on being near the line because it's not a priority. It's been a focus on getting as close as you can, I guess.

Spacing spacing spacing.
