But I do know that whatever this is, the current administration owns it.

Except for the last guy, who wouldn’t own anything.

Also hard to disagree with that.

Although whether he accepted ownership really has nothing to do with whether he was responsible for various things.

So dumb. This is far beyond any individual administration. Hats off to both Trump and Biden for shutting off this federal welfare program to defense contractors.

So dumb.

Seen any of the videos of their citizens in total panic? Hundreds chasing and hanging onto one of our air force's airplanes as it's trying to leave. The people who supported us and betrayed the Taliban are going to be slaughtered.

Not sure something I'd be saying "hats off" about.

There is no perfect way to exit, but this wasn't it. And this current administration lied and/or sugar coated things every step of the way.

Yes, yes, heart-string touching videos aside, we cannot as a nation continue to occupy and prop up the government of another nation. It's been 20 freaking years. We have educated a generation of their youth, given billions of dollars to them as a nation and 2,448 American service members and 3,846 US Contractors have died in Afghanistan through April of this year.

There's no doubt that some of the people of Afghanistan don't want us to leave because it has been plainly obvious that the government and military of Afghanistan don't seem to have the driving desire to take care of their country themselves. It's clearly easier and less stressful to just let us do it for them at our expense. And I have no idea what Biden's administration "lied" about.

So what do we do, stay there forever? How long is enough time for the people of their own country to want to stand up and take charge? It's been 20 years of preparation and they got rolled over in a few weeks. Either our efforts to teach them to be ready to take over were horribly done or they never really wanted to learn to take over themselves in the first place. Neither option leads me to believe that we should continue to pour billions more through the war machine to put more American soldiers in harm's way just so we can have the same thing happen 20 years from now.

The estimate on what this 20 year cluster fuck has cost the US is around $2 trillion. Do you have any concept of what we could accomplish with that money if we spent it on programs in the US?!?

Biden said a month or so ago this wasn't guaranteed to happen. He lied. They knew exactly what would happen.

Can you send me a link to that? I'd like to see the context around that alleged statement.

It's dumb to hold Biden accountable for this mess?

Strange.

yes

mich places all the blame at his feet, and you agreed

Biden didn’t get us into this 20 years ago, nor has been “in charge” over the past 20 years

does he deserve some blame? absolutely

it’s dumb to absolve everyone else of blame to score political points, which is exactly what much is trying to do

he does it every chance he gets

it’s incredibly transparent to anyone paying attention

Nobody absolved anyone of blame for the last 20 years.

We are talking about right now. Choices/decisions being made right now. Hard to blame Trump or Obama or Bush for the choices Biden has made now that he is in charge.

really?

go re-read mich’s two posts

no mention of anyone other than Biden

this was never going to end well, no matter when we pulled out or who was in office

and i’m not going to say anything else other than if you both weren’t putting all of the blame for this mess squarely on Biden’s shoulders, you would’ve mentioned previous administrations and even the afghan people
