We have states passing laws allowing the government to go door to door looking to punish parents for raising transgender children and offering bounties on women who seek out abortions, Big Oil and trucking/shipping companies gouging Americans to produce record profits and a teenager walking into a school and murdering more than a dozen children and you think teacher's unions are the biggest US villain? You are seriously fucked up.

We will be 50 individual territories in many of our lifetimes. We will not be "united" "states" much longer.

Far too many differences to overcome.

Get to a state you agree with ideologically, or another country entirely, before it's too late and becomes more complicated.

That's almost as absurd as Mich's comment. There is as close to a 0% chance of that happening as possible. The vast majority of states have zero chance of surviving as their own country as they are completely landlocked by other states and would be 100% reliant on them to survive. Texas is probably the only state that has a quasi decent chance to survive as their own country given their size, oil reserves and their coastline. California, New York, Alaska and Hawaii could also probably make it. Most of the rest would be screwed.

while I agree that it won't happen....there are lots of landlocked countries in the world that make it.

If it ever did go that way it wouldn't be 50 individual territories...it would be groups of states joining together into 4 or 5 territories.

The chance of civil war (of some sort) and significant change in how states are ruled is far greater than 0.

Doesn't mean states/territories wouldn't work together on certain things. Maybe there'd be 10 territories. Maybe more. Maybe less. But next presidential election is going to be a shit show that neither party will accept the results of if it doesn't go their way.

Maybe states becoming more reliant on themselves would end up being a good thing?

Maybe it'd be a good thing to change how this country is governed?

The states that want strict gun control can do it.

The states that want ridiculous abortion laws can do it.

Trying to force ideologies on others doesn't work well imo.

Maybe it would be a good thing for some people to stop treating any sort of change as a political battle and to stop making the Bible the sole source of what should govern our citizens. Some are so entrenched in this whole us vs them battle that they have lost any semblance of common sense. This whole "just move to a different state/country if you don't like our knuckledragging stance" shtick is absurd. Treating members of our society like they are less than others has got to stop. The war against women and the LGBTQ+ community is not something that should just be left to whatever majority happens to live within that states borders. That is ridiculous.

The chance of getting hit by both lightning and a tornado while also being shot at the same time is also "greater than zero".

I fully agree that the next decade will just be a continuation of the last 5 years of shit show.

I don't disagree with anything you said. I agree with most of it....but what is quoted above is part of the problem because a significant portion of the world is extremely religious.

I am not a bible thumper, but some are, and you're never going to convince them otherwise by calling them knuckledraggers (even if they are).

I think having territories more split by ideologies would work better for everyone.

Right now we have a significant portion of our country who hates the president and/or doesn't even believe he is president.

And on the flip side an even more significant portion of our country doesn't think the Supreme Court is legit anymore because Trump gave life time appointments to conservative justices they don't agree with.

Some states are already laying the ground work to not honor presidential election results they don't agree with.

Not sure what other way this can go, but to some sort of civil war (of sorts) and changing of how our "country" works.

Let's get beyond the whole "people won't do stuff if you call them names". It has been completely proven that that really has no actual effect on anything.

We need to stop passing laws based on the Bible. The Bible has nothing to do with governing a country of 265 million+ incredibly diverse people and was never designed to do so.

Again...i don't disagree...but others feel differently. They think the bible and their religion should help guide society. That's not unique to the USA.

Yeah, if this were possible California would have jumped ship years (decades?) ago.

cali, tejas and alaska could probably “survive” on their own

that’s it

regardless though, the idea that any state could secede is hilarious

there is zero provision in the constitution for secession, so LITERALLY the only way for it to happen would be through some sort of civil war (unless all 50 states AND congress agree). what state is going to go head-to-head with the MIC?

silliness

Wonder what the GDP would be if we broke up into five to seven separate countries, approximately - West (CA, OR, WA, NV, AZ), Gulf Coast (TX, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL), New England (NY, NJ, CT, MA, VT, NH, ME), Atlantic (PA, MD, VA, NC, ?), Slaver Theocracies (KY, AR, OK, MO, TN, SC)……

I think some would thrive, like West and NE, and others would quickly become s-hole countries.
