We all have seen the stats that most drugs come thru ports of entry....but using El Chapo as some sort of evidence that it never happens seems a bit silly.....they're moving amounts that can't be carried by hand...regardless, the drugs stopped by a wall would be insignificant, I agree with that.

I saw something on the news the other night that something like 60-75% of drugs that come into the country law enforcement knows about and aren't allowed to stop for various reasons.

Better border fences and walls in more populated areas forced smugglers to go to the Arizona border. Ranchers along Arizona’s border do feel very threatened. (Link also includes story of a woman park maintenance worker who was beaten nearly to death with a rock by a previously deported, convicted felon in a park on the border.)

Lots of good stuff in there.

What especially caught my eye was that many immigrants are eligible for green cards, but can't change their status from within the United States and face lengthy times for reentry if they go "home" to apply correctly.

It shouldn't be easier for those who come here illegally to gain permanent status...but it also shouldn't be so hard for people who have expired status to change that status from within the country if they've been model citizens. That's creating an incentive for them to stay "illegally" because of the difficulties associated with changing that status.

This seems like something that most reasonable people would agree upon. It's not favoring people who come here illegally as far as a path to more permanent status (jumping the line so to speak), but also not punishing people who have been here legally and need to renew/update their status.
