He's very accurate - moreso than Mahomes.
But the subject was long distance power arms - being able to make throws that some quarterbacks can't.

Yea, that's a bit of an overpay I think.

Speaking of overpays:
Carr extension. 3 years, 121.5 million.

Lol. I'm not exactly sure that locking yourself into Carr (or Cousins) is exactly trying to win or compete.

I am being serious on that, but to make it more lighthearted, I did recently listen to a podcast about how guys like Cousins and Carr are effectively holding teams hostage. (and fuck them)

Their production over the next 2-3 seasons is going to be better than all or very nearly all of the first round picks, and with the expanded cap, their agents are basically playing a holdout game.

Cousins is toast--new regime, et al. In the case of Vegas and the big time moves they made, I don't think they have any other choice. And, again, the $40m just isn't really an overpay anymore.

I just think it's exceptionally hard to really compete if you're committing that much of your cap to a second- or lower-tier quarterback.

It might well be true that Cousins and Carr will be "better than all or very nearly all of the first round picks" over the next 2-3 years, BUT those picks are on rookie deals that allow for a lot more to be put around them.

I don't buy that anymore with the new cap. And with the QB position, especially.

Plus, we are seeing that teams' philosophies are not SB or bust. It seems to be playoffs or bust, and we just watched 2 4 seeds play in the SB.

I also think contract structure matters. You're committing big $$'s but mostly in the short term.

NFL quarterback contracts with the most guaranteed money
Rank Player Total guarantees
1 Deshaun Watson $230 million
2 Aaron Rodgers $150.6 million
3 Josh Allen $150 million
4 Patrick Mahomes $141.5 million
5 Matthew Stafford $135 million
6 Dak Prescott $126 million
7 Jared Goff $110 million
8 Carson Wentz $108 million
9 Russell Wilson $107 million
10 Matt Ryan $100 million

Now, the WR deals we have seen are absurd, I think.

But this list supports my point. Feels like you wouldn't feel great having half the guys/contracts on that list!

I only count 3 I wouldn't want. And Carr isn't on there.

To the point about cap, the top 6 contracts are less than a year old. 8 of the top 10 are less than a year old. It's a new era. Every QB's agent knows the team needs them. If the team is any good, they can't trot out Ryan Fitzpatrick.

On the plus side, 3 more years of Carr handing the Chiefs a win with a bone headed play!

Carr's average salary is 5th behind Rodgers, Watson, Mahomes and Allen.
