Maybe. Or maybe he (finally) found the level of competition that was right for his skill level.

I would absolutely do this (or even a 1-3-1, but you probably can't get that in overnight), if for no other reason than to keep Hunter from getting pulled out. Hunter tends to be good at avoiding foul trouble, but we can't take any chances in that regard.
I mean, their tallest guy is KJs size, they all shoot 3s....why bother having Hunter run through screens all game? push everything put away from the 3 pt line and make them beat you without taking 47 open 3s
I’m not above any and all junk defenses.
Switch it up Bill but you gotta have zone ready to use if not used right outta the gate.

I'll be surprised if Self gets creative with a zone.

If we are 4 minutes in and it’s 11-4 and they’ve hit 3 3s he’d better be open to a zone.

pdub can speak for himself, but it's not JUST the players I worry about having a case of the fuckits for this one.

Have we used zone for any significant time this year? I'm not sure I remember use using it much, if at all, tbh.

I highly doubt the organization is gonna say “phucque it” just because km decided to sit this one out.

I would not think that it's "just because km decided to sit this one out."

If we are implying Self is over this season, well he sure shouldn't have said things about just wanting to be great when it matters...because it kinda matters a lot now.

If we have to go zone to beat Samford, we might as well say fuck it and go home

it’s apparent that HCBS has gotten a little soft as he ages. but, I’m not ready to say that he has lost his passion.

Well obviously he wouldn't have averaged 20 here, but for a team that literally does not have a back up 4... I'd welcome TGF on this roster.

He averaged 20 on a 29-4 ncaa tournament team. Nothing to scoff at. The dude was talented

They are a 3 point shooting team with no scary interior scorers.
Hunter is extremely important for our offense now that KM is out so we need to protect him on defense.
I don't understand why you wouldn't do everything you could in this game to win.

Feels like you're moving some things around a little bit.

"Just wanting to be great when it matters" would seem to refer to a postseason-oriented approach to the program generally - goes to things like NOT sacrificing development or NOT overloading key players, in each case to win January games.

A bit apples-and-oranges, in my view, to apply it to mean that Bill should care extra-much about this game because of the particular circumstances.

I agree the strategy makes sense

But we don't play zone. How many minutes of zone have we played all season? Drastically changing who you are to beat a 13 seed in the first round is an alarming sign

Self teams play man to man defense. If we can't play man against Samford, our hopes in the tournament are pretty non existent (which is accurate)

Gut check time for our players and coaches.

What happened to don't worry about the horses just load the wagons?

Easy to be positive when things are going well. Now they need to show some character and battle through some adversity.

Nothing to lose and everything to gain is not a bad spot to be all things considered.

pretty good game down the stretch b/t grambling st. and montana st.
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Bill Self previews Kansas vs. Samford, provides update on Hunter Dickinson

I found this interview much more interesting than usual.
