Outside of STEM, how much is a degree really worth toward a career, anyway?

At least undergrad

A lot of degrees are pretty much worthless, right, especially now with so many people having them. It seems like if one doesn't go into IT or computer field, it's much harder to find a high paying job. But there's always opportunity for those who think a little outside the box.

I'd argue a CS degree doesn't mean that much either. Or at least isn't worth the cost.

Yeah, I've heard some say that. I think the problem that some people don't want to recognize is that this isn't the same US economy we had 40 years ago. It's not the same playing field the boomers had. Housing was not a massive asset bubble like it has been for the last 20 years, and college prices were not what they are today (even adjusted in nominal cost). Still though, every generation has their problems. I think a lot of the most successful millennials will be the ones who think outside the box.
