Obscure Kansas Basketball Trivia

This former KU player was a Wichita native. He had a child while at KU.
His best game very well may have been in the Elite 8 and no question helped KU big time to get to the Final Four. Who is/was this player?
Side note which will help answer the question... The team they beat had multiple future NBA players - one of which ended up being a Bools Head Coach.

Milt Newton?
Re: Obscure Kansas Basketball Trivia
zsn got it (Dreiling) and the game I was referring to was against NCST. The guy who became the Bools Head Coach was Vinny Del Negro. That NCST team was stacked.
Nate McMillian
Charles Shackleford
Chris Washburn
Chucky Brown
Del Negro
Ernie Meyers
Bennie Bolton
Walker Lambiotte
From that team Brown, Del Negro, McMillan, Shackleford, and Washburn all played in the the NBA.

This former Kansas Basketball player has a son who plays for the Chicago Bools.
Who is/was this player?
Bonus points for spelling his name correctly without looking it up.

Forgot that we beat NCSt to get to the FF in 86. That epic MSU game was stuck in my head as the E8 game. Thrown off further by the the fact that another Bulls coach was in that game also! As I recall (vaguely) it was interesting for a while then we got the game under control about halfway through the second half
Re: Obscure Kansas Basketball Trivia
Here is one I didn't know: What Kansas basketball star was recruited because he was at Band Camp at Murphy Hall?
Re: Obscure Kansas Basketball Trivia

Re: Obscure Kansas Basketball Trivia

Bud Stallworth. Pretty amazing one of our best ever was basically unheralded at a backwater Alabama HS and happened to come to Lawrence for musical summer school.

Wow! I didn't put 2 and 2 together and realize KU beat two future Bools coaches back to back.zsn wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 11:19 am Forgot that we beat NCSt to get to the FF in 86. I remember coming back from Kemper and seeing all the people and tents set up in front of Allen for people hoping to score Final Four tickets. I wasn't happy that I was probably going to get shut out. We went to Dallas without tickets and being that it was being played in Reunion Arena, it was VERY hard to find "affordable" tickets. Thank God for Thomas Fitch. Came through with 4 tickets for us about an hour before tip off.
One of the best weekends of my life despite the outcome and my car getting smashed up.

A more recent guy.
This former KU Basketball player was NOT born in the United States.
Both of his parents attended KU.
He was a McDonalds All-American and supposedly a top 10 player in HS.
He scored 27 points in his very first college basketball game.
He averaged 13.4 points per game at KU.
Even though he did average 10 points a game one of his seasons in the NBA, he was/is still considered by many to be be a bust being that he was an early/mid first round draft pick.

Yep!
Little did we know we would see him committing Jayhawk on Jayhawk violence in the not too distant future.

Re: Obscure Kansas Basketball Trivia
Yeah, I was at that game…27 in a freshman debut, hot damn! Everybody thought KU just won the one-and-done lottery.
but then he just seemed to put it on cruise control the rest of the season. Still a really good freshman, but not exactly a game changer either.
And I think his pro career was hampered by injuries. Dunno how much you wanna blame a guy for that
