He was, especially early on. But that was because of defense (imo). Yes wasn't providing scoring (or playing defense very well) and he was lost on offense. Plus with CB Och JW and DMac the scoring/shooting wasn't as much of a need.

Pettiford feels like a Self favorite in the making.

I totally onboard with Yes getting more minutes next season and think he may have a break-out year. I re-watched a few of the games that he played major minutes in and he looked really good. People seem to forget that he stepped in when Ochai was out with Covid and lead KU to a victory over ISU in Ames. He had 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in his 23 minutes.

Absolutely.

Small. Can't shoot very well. Plays hard. Good at defense.

Some will love him. Others will hate. The cycle never-ending.

All about health with him. Hope for some good fortune there so he can stick around long enough to be a Self-type guard.

Jeff Goodman projects our starting lineup to be:

DH
McCullar
Gradey
JW
Udeh

Neither freshman big wowed last season but they showed promising things. It’s why Udeh, if he can defend better than either guy at the 5 ( I think KJ is undersized for a typical big ), might be the dude.

You would loose that 3 point factor that Clemence would bring though...and we don’t have any proven deep threats returning. That’s also why I could see KJ and Clemence together with Clemence spending more time on the perimeter and KJ cleaning up the misses.

Feels like it will be big-by-committee between Adams, Clemence and Udeh. Freshmen bigs typically struggle to play at a defensive level that Self is OK with so I'd be pretty stunned to see Udeh start the season in the starting lineup. If he does end up passing Adams and Clemence as the best option then that's great for KU. The competition for minutes between those three should result in all three busting their ass all summer and in practice to earn their slice of those minutes.

Without regard for our annual suspensions/injuries, I would be shocked if our opening lineup is anything but:

Harris
Yesufu
Dick
Wilson
Adams

I'd love for Rice to grab Yesufu's spot, but I'm just not seeing it, at least in November.

I wouldn't be shocked by that lineup at all either.

Is there any chance Rice beats out Gradey? They aren't ranked far apart.

The balance of what I’ve read suggests that Dick is better. A real OAD possibility. Rice seems very Selden-y.

Cam averaged 4 points and 3 rebounds playing 10 minutes a game as a freshman at Jacksonville State. I would call that his best case scenario as a 6th year senior at Kansas.

D2 All-American's can still play. Especially two time AAs. Top end of my expectations were that he would have a Mario Little type of production. Numbers he put up at JSU would fall pretty much in line with that.

Especially since it's likely that if he's anything as advertised, Dick is going to be our best 3-point shooter.
