Shouldn't be any harder than Iowa, Iowa State or Kansas State. They have nice facilities and great home fan support in their new arena. Transfers and "try hards" worked for him at Iowa State. He could get Nebraska to that same level pretty easy.

I didn't say it was harder than those schools. I said there are none harder.

Nebraska is pretty good at just about every sport other than basketball. So, yeah, they have a nice new arena, great facilities, a fan base that would support a winner...but no one's ever really been able to get it done there. And Hoiberg might be the guy...but you'd have to recruit like crazy to do it, even if that means transfers and finding diamonds in the rough.

I'm sure part of the appeal of the job, if he actually finds it apealing, over say UCLA, is that if you could win 20 games a year and win an NCAA tournament game every once in a while, you're a legend as opposed to UCLA where if you can't win national titles you're a bum.

If Tim Miles knew how to coach offense and Copeland didn't blow out his knee, Nebraska would be in the tourney. They can get players to go there that are good enough to make the tourney on a pretty regular basis. They have just had 2 straight coaches in Miles and Sadler who absolutely sucked at coaching offense. Recruits would be excited to play in Hoiberg's run and chuck style.

The point is, recruiting at UCLA would be a lot easier. Less travel, less convincing, more local talent, etc.

If recruiting is what he hates, which is why you said he wouldn't coach at UCLA, then nebraska is a mistake for him.

If other things are bigger factors, quality of life, close to family, etc. then maybe he takes the Nebraska job.

Cal and K could probably recruit to Lincoln too, but it'd be a helluva lot harder than it is at UK or Dook.

Hoiberg would be a home run hire for Nebraska.

A down by three, two-out, bottom of the ninth, full-count grand-slam.

And for the record, Nebraska basketball fans are the WORST.

What makes it harder than Iowa, Iowa State and Kansas State is that the job has killed off so many coaches, and not all of them were bad. In fact, most of them weren't bad. That limits the pool and it also kind of becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

It's not a ton different than Kansas football.

Ya, if it comes to fruition, you have to wonder if Hoiberg made one of his twin boys his agent.

He coached in the NBA. For the Bulls. UCLA would be at worst equally stressful—id argue less so. If he could handle his heart issues there he could in Cali.
Maybe so. It's just that LA is a bit more coarse. There's terrible subcultures of people with entitled attitudes that might turn him off to the area. Remember how Howland completely lost control of his team and the idiot players were doing whatever they want? Not sure LA is where he wants to be. I personally would rather him not come out here, saying that as someone who admires him.

He would have been out of basketball long ago if this were an issue.

That is hilarious. Mike Hopkins is probably the first realistic name on that list. The notion that Bennett, Calipari or Self would leave their job for UCLA is laughable.

I laughed when I saw Luke Walton on the list. He'll be replacing Miller at Arizona long before he would coach at UCLA.
