"Too meaty" tasting is not the complaint ive heard about meatless burgers
Fake meaty is my complaint.

As I mentioned I have no frame of reference. If you read in my post I clearly said it's my perception and preference. I don't like the taste and texture of those fake-meats, and that's what I associate with meat.
as they taste too meaty, especially the texture (I've never knowingly eaten meat in my life, so I am guessing that's what meat tastes/feels like) Ergo my "too meaty" comment. Maybe it is, but maybe it isn't.

BTW "If you've never eaten meat in your life how do you know you hate it?" is not a reasonable argument. I am sure one would not have eaten a lot of things in your life ranging from insects to worms to maggots to animal excreta (as an extreme) to know that one would hate eating something :)

I've eaten insects but not maggots or worms.
They ( crickets - prepared in a dry chili rub ) were not nearly as bad as I thought they'd be.
Animal poop is too extreme for this argument though as human evolution has given us the knowledge to eat something like that could be toxic.

Hamburgers, and what passes for "Mexican" food, suck here.

don't get me started

dammit
I thought seahawk was from Florida. Hearing her say she can’t find a good Reuben was surprising, with the higher than average older Jewish population there, I’d expect the opposite.
She lives in the Redneck Riviera, where they don't allow Jewish people to be within city limits after 6pm.

ah. I'm just really glad there is great mexican food all around me. And my wife's mexican side of her family is absolutely outstanding, especially in the culinary realm.

Top 3 Mexican restaurants ( i mean, fairly meh up here, though Guerrero is better than anything Lawrence has imo ) .

Portland ME, surrounding.
1. Guerrero Maya ( ask for the off menu salsas and order something different than hard shell tacos )
2. Taco Trio
3. El Corazon

( Maine in general - add El El Frijoles around Deer Isle - all veggies grown in their garden )

I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that your post made me laugh.

El Gran Tako
Tortillería Y Taquería Ramírez
La Taquisa

Except for the tortas at El Gran Tako, nothing is great.

Tough call. There is "gourmet" Mexican, there is "authentic" Mexican, and there is Mexican that falls in-between.
I'm going to defer. I'm curious as to what chikn would say.

Fine. I'll choose a "gourmet", "authentic", and in-between but I'm hardly a Mexican foodie.
I deserve to get attacked for this but since I'm in charge....

1. Frontera Grill (Topolobampo is too "gourmet" for my taste).
2. El Pastor
3. Big Star

notice, they bring a side of refried beans (above chips)to go with the chips they bring you, and then have a salsa bar (in the souffle ups to left of dish)
