that hasn't changed and isn't changing. coming back won't help his nba prospects. he would've been drafted higher after his freshman year than he will this year and a year from now it wont be any higher
Unless he can be a 45% three point shooter. That's not impossible.

or handles. If he could start driving, finishing, creating. Develop his game. Something off the bounce. And overall more consistent.

there’s more than enough examples of guys turning a corner their senior year.

What’s frustrating (and intriguing?) is that the bones of that expanded game are there. He very much *looks* the part when trying to do that stuff. The shots just don’t fall!

Yeah.

Much of it is a consistency thing.

And just a confidence thing. Dude needs to move like he expects good things to happen.

Most concerning is his ability to get to the free throw line. Lots of reasons why he can't.

But, as mjl stated, if he can shoot the 3 in the mid 40's, he'll probably play in today's NBA for a few seasons.

Yeah, his best path is a 3 and D guy. Shooting 42+ percent next year while playing solid D would probably guarantee an early 2nd round pick. Maybe sniff the late 1st round.

Och, IMO, is one of those cases that him coming back could really help to elevate his draft position if he can show NBA teams he can be a more consistent shooter, put the ball on the floor and be a more explosive wing.
That was after one year where he was still the team's best player. Not 3rd year while being, at best, the team's 2nd best player.

This also goes along with what someone said earlier about Och would have been drafted higher after his freshman season than he would be right now. Ben was a guy that was an elite athlete and also had a buttery smooth jumper. If Ben came back for another year, or 2, as Och did, then there is no way he would be the 7th pick.

He barely gets into the first round in articles about redrafting that class.

BMac as a freshman put up better numbers than Och as a junior, and looked better doing it

He wouldn't have been drafted higher after his freshman season than now. He wouldn't have been drafted at all after his freshman season. He has just been a pro prospect since his freshman season due to his athleticism.

BMac is/was better than Och every step of the way.

...but also, people forget BMac was here for an entire year before he played. So while he was technically a freshman, he wasn't a true freshman and that year of prep paid huge dividends for him. He was a much better player than he was coming out of HS after that redshirt year.

No one forgets that.

And no way to know how much better he was after the RS season.

I bet he would have played over Teahan though.

Yeeeeaah. Sigh.

No doubt he benefited from that extra year of practice.

But also, a fan can’t help but wonder how much he could have contributed as a true freshman. Dude coulda been a hell of a 6th man. On a team that struggled to score at times, that coulda been the difference between cutting down the nets…

The flip side to that (and it goes against my typical stance of if you're close to being good enough go try to be a pro and get paid), but Ben was not very skilled (still isn't) with the ball. Maybe an extra year of easier competition would have allowed him to improve his ball handling (which has really held him back in the NBA).....but seeing as how it hasn't improved a ton since going pro, maybe he's maxed out that ability. Or maybe he cares more about rapping than hoops?

Who knows. He's been super disappointing in the NBA compared to where i thought he could end up. But he's rich and his wife is 🔥🔥🔥 so he's living his best life either way.

I still can't believe that people bash Self after he got a team to the national title game where the entire bench was Teahan, Justin Wesley and Kevin Young.

Yeesh, looking back at that box score, I wonder how many other Final Four games have had a grand total of 2 combined shots made by both benches.
