Darn, didn't realize I was a little behind, and saw this during the time out with ~ 14 seconds left.

Big 3 by Baylor with only ~ 5 seconds left.
Big 3 by Baylor for sure, especially since that wasn't a very good play. Ended in a deep contested 3.

Then they fell asleep on how you guard those inbounds plays with 5sec left and the entire length of the court to go. Can't let the 2nd guy catch and run free all the way to the hoop.
right

“stop ball” is jr. high level fundamentals

I just turned on Iowa State-TCU, and after 2 minutes had to change the channel as I thought that court might cause a seizure.

how does UCF only have 17 total points at the 11 minute mark of the second half?

So...I'm thinking 2018-19 might be aiming too high for this team.

Fire them all. Reduction in pay at minimum.

In the end, if we crash and burn and it changes Selfs thinking about buying the best transfer and instead planning ahead and holding onto lesser talented but more senior and invested players in your system, I’m all for it.

I agree.

Although Hunter is worth every penny. 20 and 10 is no joke. We'd be lost without him.

I'd argue that a big part of the problem is the "lesser talented but more senior" point guard.

That and Deeeedric.

Absolutely. Thank god he's surrounded by Kj and KM.

He also isn't used to winning and hasn't won under this kind of pressure. He's going to have to learn on the fly. He'll be much better next year.

I am very much hoping he’s somewhere else next year.

And I think he will be.

I don't love hunter. I was upset about losing zuby and udeh. I think keeping them would better for the culture of the program. Those guys wouldn't let us get outrebounded for lack of effort.

But. Where in the fuck would our offense be with zuby and udeh instead of hunter.

We needed hunter. That's why self prioritized him.

Regarding DC's latter point, there are a lot of parallels. Both transfers, both bigs, both put up big numbers on young thin teams that weren't Self's usual curb-stomp-the-conference sort of product. Both could be less soft, sure. But both were/are also the biggest difference between a meh team that did/does still compete, and being an absolute dumpster fire without. Fault Dedric all you want, but '19 would have loost a helluva lot more games without him. Fault Hunter all you want, but he's still a legit AA candidate, and still statistically a top-2 player on this team.

(and Dedric didn't have anyone even vaguely resembling McCullar...and even if anyone wants to argue there WAS a McCullar sort of co-lead role on 2019, that player didn't finish the season...I digress)

Regarding DC's former point, well, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the question of HOW DOES A 5TH YEAR SENIOR MULTI-YEAR STARTER AVERAGE ALMOST 2PPG LESS THAN LAST YEAR AND ALMOST ALL OTHER STATS DOWN TOO. And that's 5 years in the program too, not even some goofy transfer. If we're gonna draw more 2019 comparisons, let's wonder how many minutes a freshman Devon would be playing for this year's team.

I can't believe I am going to take the time to do this, but....

Ways this happens:

This team has 2 guys (KM and HD) who score almost 20ppg. This team has another guy (Kj) who scores 13ppg. KM and HD are a historically good scoring duo at KU. And Kj has an eFG% of 62.3, which is really good for a 3rd option.

Another factor is that these 4 all play 32+ mpg. So almost every single minute he plays he is the 4th scoring option (at best) on a team that runs really good offense and has a historically high assist rate on made baskets. So why would we want him to shoot more? I'd rather one of the top scoring duos in KU history (it's an extensive history) get more shots, or the really efficient/effective 3rd scoring option get more shots.

These factors have resulted in DH taking approximately 1.5 less shots per game than he did last year (6.2 fga per game this year, 7.7 fga per game last year). 1.5 less shots translates to about 2 less points apparently based on this data.

Other important factors that a middle schooler could look up and analyze (if they truly were as interested in something as you say you are):

Last year's team was 92nd in the country in fga (field goal attempts) per game at 59.5

This year's team is 229th in the country in fga per game at 58.3

Yet, this team scores more points per game. Almost 4 more points per game. Because we get the ball to the people who it should go to. So DH is taking less shots per game on a team who takes less shots per game, but scores more points per game (which is a good thing).... and yet, you can't wrap your mind around how he could possibly average 2 less ppg?

Your fascination with "needing" a scoring point guard displays your elementary understanding of basketball. This is a team sport. Shots don't need to be spread around equally. Our offense thrives on getting it to the correct people in the correct spots. I'd rather HD KM or Kj take a shot each possession than DH. And DH is instrumental in getting them quality looks (his assist numbers reflect that).

Next 7 games - @ ISU, v OSU, v HOU, @ ksu, v Baylor, @ Texas Tech, @ OU.

How many of those do we think we'll be favored in?
4?
I'd bet Houston will be a slight favorite at AFH.
