Exactly. Not a democracy. I am always amazed at how many college students (and, apparently, grown adults) will adamantly argue that we live in a democracy and that they are somehow being screwed over by the system.

Why? Why is that a good thing to give more power to smaller states? Why do we need both the senate and electoral college to do this? Wouldn't it seem better to only have one that is skewed?

The Electoral College was created for two reasons. The first purpose was to create a buffer between population and the selection of a President...The founding fathers were afraid of direct election to the Presidency. They feared a tyrant could manipulate public opinion and come to power.

It forces candidates to be accountable to the so-called “flyover states” in order to be elected.
