Seriously? Comey did not ask to testify, especially to a lame duck House. This whole thing begins and ends with the grandstandiest of the grandstanders, and the lamest of the ducks, Gowdy and Goodlatte.

I prefer to think of them as translucent.

Oh thanks for clarifying! Sort of.

But whatever you do, don’t say a word about public officials not being public about their jobs.

Now quick, you and illy and dolomite go throw Comey under the bus some more! How dare that guy subpoena himself just to grandstand!

Can I sigh here?

Cuz I didn't say that, you know I didn't say that, and yet having to explain that I didn't say that and then explain what I did actually say is the this bored is a bored.

Welp, this got boring.

But for real, DC please forgive my last post. It was unnecessarily snarky.

Indeed, your comments took a critical tone against Comey, accusing him of grandstanding.

I was concerned with your comments, as if Comey somehow subpoenaed himself just for the chance to grandstand, and without addressing the public officials who have insisted on less-than-public terms.

Or something. I dunno, you can be a little translucent with your point.

But for real I enjoy the dialogue, so thanks for that much!

Comey wanted his testimony public because he likes cameras and playing the martyr.

Not exactly controversial. Or especially enlightening.

Are these sorts of subpoenas usually served behind closed doors?

Haven't we already heard all of his testimony, or just the declassified part?

They want more information about the 2016 investigation -- presumably in light of further revelations. Former AG Lynch also subpoenaed.

Which investigation?

Trump and Russia or Dowdy and emails?

^^^

Large of DC to share his mind reading/motive divining prowess with us.

Who could have guessed that Comey is secretly hoping that, in a rare gesture of bipartisanship now that the midterms are over, once congress reconvenes in Jan., Democrats will go all Benghazi! on Comey's ass and have him investigated by 7 or 8 different House committees, and take 2-3 years to do it.

"because he likes cameras and playing the martyr"

Or:

...lawyers for Comey wrote that the he was fighting the committee’s bid to force him to testify “not to avoid giving testimony but to prevent the Joint Committee from using the pretext of a closed interview to peddle a distorted, partisan political narrative about the Clinton and Russian investigations.”

I mean if there ever was a political culture that was like, ohh yeah we totally shouldn’t do this behind closed doors cuz it sounds shady as fuck and we wanna he faithful representatives of our democratic republic, that’d be rad.

But of course that wouldn’t happen in modern day Merica, and certainly wouldn’t happen coming from the Party of Trump.
