That's fine, they may want to go through the process, but many do not show up for a hearing, isn't that an issue that should be dealt with?
how many? link?

regardless, sure it should be dealt with

but giving desperate people no other option is what has yielded the problem we have now

rather than demonizing, sending troops, and making the process unnecessarily difficult, how about we direct resources to more effectively apply the actual law?

crazy, i know...
You asked;
https://immigrationreform.com/2018/07/1 ... -hearings/
Former federal immigration judge Mark Metcalf knows better. He calculates that 43 percent of asylum seekers with court orders to appear never showed up for their hearings in 2016.
you shoulda read the whole thing, or at least not cherry-picked your quote

there should definitely be a better system for monitoring asylum-seekers AFTER their first hearing. what many of us want, though, is for them to get that first hearing

...Immigrants’ purported low court attendance rate has become a popular talking point, from Trump himself ("When we release the people, they never come back to the judge, anyway — they're gone"), to White House staff and law enforcement officials, to the administration’s conservative media allies.

In absolute terms, more than 100,000 non-detained immigrants have been ordered to be deported in recent years because they failed to appear before an immigration judge. However, as a percentage, most undocumented immigrants do show up for court...

...According to Justice Department data from the last five available years, around 60 to 75 percent of non-detained migrants have attended their immigration court proceedings. That’s determined by subtracting the percentage of judgments entered against migrants in their absence (known as an in absentia ruling) from total judgments entered...

see, actual data was used rather than some judge just doing some "figurin"

and this:

...So what do the court attendance rates of asylees look like? While the data is scarce, they show higher rates, compared to when all migrants are tallied together.

One source of data comes from an Obama-era program that released asylees from detention and matched them with case managers who encouraged compliance with court-ordered obligations. As of April, the Family Case Management Program, or FCMP, had 630 enrolled families.

Before the Trump administration ended the program in June, participants had a 100 percent attendance record at court hearings. They also had a 99 percent rate of check-ins and appointments with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to a Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General report...

Gee, you mean that the problem really wasn't a problem any more until Trump rebroke it because it was fixed by Obama?!? Shocker.

Eliminating it with no plan to actually improve it. Seems like Trump's method of "make it better" is missing something...

Making it better typically involves actual improvement.

Oh, so the 6 years that republicans spent trying to "repeal and replace" the imperfect ACA was their effort to make features like "pre-existing condition" protection, "better"?

That seems like a conclusion that only an idiot would make. Since, after wasting the country's time and energy playing on Americans' fears demagoguing the ACA for 6 years, when it came time for republicans to show us the policies they wanted to "replace" the ACA with, they didn't have any clue, let alone anything even suggesting a viable set of ideas, to propose.

This is a thread about illegal immigration.

Take a deep breath. Go make an ACA thread if you need to vent.

Why don't you go make the basketball forum unreadable, again, like you did at .net, and stop making lame-ass posts here.

The more you use that line the more of a "lame-ass" response it becomes.

Nope. I'm over in the ACA thread.

Feral wandered off I guess and got confused about which thread she was in.

I have more of a problem with throwing water bottles. They were given those as charity so they could live. And they use them as weapons. That's fucked up.

Another victory for Trump!
SAN FRANCISCO – The Trump administration provided adequate justification for its decision to end a program that reunited hundreds of immigrants from Central America with family members in the U.S., a federal judge ruled Monday.

I wonder how many good 'ol white boys/men raped children during the span from this man's arrest to conviction?

Or does that matter?

I'm confused why comparing rapes excuses either of the actions?

So, since white men have raped people that means we shouldn't care or point out this instance?

Should we use that logic for all topics on the poli-bored?

No, my claim is that Fox "News" pores over news reports early every single morning praying that they can find a crime that an illegal has commited. Are you going to suggest that they don't?
