More to college athletics than just Basketball.
Stanford, UCLA, and USC rank 1,2,3 out of all conference affiliated schools for the most NCAA Championships.

ou might be a tougher game than i imagined
I was surprised to see OU's record so I looked a little deeper into into it. Three years ago when they probably scheduled most of it, that would have been a beast of a schedule. Lots of big names that are all having bad seasons this year.

Florida: 8-4
Notre Dame: 10-3
Wichita State: 7-5
USC: 7-6
Creighton: 9-4
Northwestern: 9-4

With two of their first three Big 12 games being @Kansas and @Texas Tech, we will get to know if OU's appearance in the Top 25 is for real.

Why do you think Hoiberg, a guy who has said he hates a good portion of what college coaching is, is a good fit in UCLA?

I'll answer for myself b/c this topic interests me: It's UCLA and L.A. The program sells itself. Hoiberg now has complete NBA chops in front office, scouting and head coaching that will help keep California kids at home.

He'll tie the program in with the Lakers and Clippers given his connections. He can obviously coach at this level. Good dude, too. He won't let LaVar Ball into the belly like Alford did.

And he has been named the front runner in all the talk so far.

Timing-wise, there really isn't a reason to fire Alford right now, unless your guy is available right now, and obviously Hoiberg is.
I only came to kick some ass...

The thing for me is that he has already said he doesn't enjoy being a college head coach. Combine that with he just doesn't seem like a guy who would get caught up in the "but it's LA" hype.

Personally, I just think his name is being thrown around because he's one of the best that are unemployed right now. Even if it means there's no way he coaches there. Which is what I would bet on.

I believe he said he didn't particularly enjoy recruiting.

Regardless, all of my comments on why I think he would succeed are on the assumption that he would actually take the job. I would surely think he would not take the job if he did not want to coach college basketball again.

Also: everything is relative, right, and he may in fact "like" college basketball more today than as of the last time he commented on this stuff.

And, if it is indeed just recruiting, again, selling UCLA is lot more enjoyable than selling Iowa State.

Not, in the least, in that you can really recruit without traveling much if you'd really want. Not true at Iowa State, or KU for that matter.

I did hear something interesting today - before Alford, who was the last UCLA coach not to win a conference title?

UCLA want Donovan from OKC...I think Donovan might be ready to move on from the Thunder.

Freddy, Earl Watson back-up plan.
